I blinked my eyes as I awoken. The house was quiet, something I wasn't used to. I wrestled the covers off of me and noticed a note on my dresser.
hey, me and Julia went off to get some more food for the weekend. We should be back soon.
I placed the note back down and walked towards the door frame. I heard pans clanking downstairs. I slipped on my house shoes and made my way downstairs. Taylor was downstairs frying bacon.
"I made breakfast if you're hungry", she spoke. I yawned and nodded at her. I grabbed a plate and made my breakfast. Everything felt so awkward, even so since I strangely felt no tension from her. I couldn't bare the silence anymore.
"So how have you been?" I asked.
"I've been okay, been working most of the time" she responded.
"You don't go to school?"
"I was going too. You were there when I got rewarded that scholarship during graduation, right?" She Inquired.
I nodded yes.
"Well that scholarship was a mistake, it wasn't supposed to go to me, it was for Taylor Aldridge."
"You're joking."
"No, getting that news fucked up my day and my dreams."
"Damn Taylor, I'm so sorry" I added.
"Shit, don't be, I got more free time."
I glanced at her with a sad smile.
Taylor placed her coffee down. "Kaitlyn, do you wanna go hiking with me tommorow?" She asked.
I was appalled to hear her ask that. "Sure, I have some freetime."
She smiled and walked to the living room. I felt dazed. I didn't know what had happened but I shook it off and walked onto the front porch. I sat on the bench and sighed. Just a week ago, I couldn't acknowledge Taylors' existence and now I'm going hiking with her tomorrow. I looked up and spotted coffee shop down the road, walking distance away. I got excited. Coffee shops were my favorite place for a brain break. I definitely needed one.
I got myself dressed and strolled down the street. It was windy, a cold snapping wind, unusual for Los Angeles. I made it to the shop and opened the door. The inside was warm and oddly smelt like cinnamon. There was people on laptops and others just sitting and thinking. I walked to a table in the corner and sat down. It felt comforting.
I leaned my head back on the wall. I was starting to question my decision to come along. I should have just stayed home and went to school. I found myself getting sleepy. I was having trouble keeping my head up. I eventually dozed off.
I'm gonna need you to take a deep breath. it's gonna be okay. Where is your mommy and daddy? I'm gonna call them for you.
I saw red and blue lights, everything was a daze.
"Ma'am, ma'am are you okay?"
I jolted up. Smacking my lips together as my body craved water. I looked up to see the silouete of a person looking at me.
"You started snoring, felt as if I should save you from the embarrassment." The voice echoed with a laughed.
My vision restored itself so I could make out his face. The voice was a man, a man with mocha skin and honey eyes. He held one of the whitest smiles I've ever seen. My heart pounded as I stared at him. "Oh shit, I was snoring?" I slured.
"Yeah, are you here alone?" He asked.
"Oh yeah, I'm staying with friends for the weekend, came down here to chill."
"Sounds fun, what's your name if I may ask?" He Inquired.
"Kaitlyn."
"Pretty, I'm Kenan. I go to college at LACU."
"Oh, I go to technical college." I replied.
"Nothing wrong with that. What's your major?"
"Interior Design"
"That's really cool, I'm a psychology major."
I smiled at him, what a comparison we had.
"My school is doing a food drive, I'm going around asking people who are seemingly in my age group if they would like to participate, so, would you?" He asked.
I processed the question. "Sure."
"Great! This is my card, call my number and I'll give you more information, I have to go now. Hope to see you around, Kaitlyn." He winked at me.
I gulped.
I looked around at other people. The shop was almost empty. I lost track of time. It was almost midday. I had to get back. I got up and walked out the door and headed back up to the house.
I rubbed my head. I still had Kenans' card in my hand. I shoved it in my pocket. Mercedes was outside on the phone. It sounded like she was arguing with someone.
"I'm telling you, I'm not gonna mess around at this party." She said, letting out a frustrated sigh. I looked at her and gritted my teeth, letting out and awkward smile before walking inside. Music was blaring and Julia was dancing. I didn't see Taylor. Julia seemingly had her head in the clouds. This party was tommorow night. My first party. I'm not sure if I'm ready but let's see how it goes.
I spent the rest of the day cleaning before finally crashing out at midnight.
A/N: Heyo! I know this chapter wasn't the longest but I did make it a detail grabber. I hope you all are having a good day. Take your meds and drink water! 🦝
