War begins.
It was the morning of the Invasion. Everyone was strapping up and preparing. I watched as Taylor limped towards her gun. I got up and rushed over towards her. "Taylor, I don't think you should go out today, you care barely even walk." I was worried about her. "I got this, I promise." She was resilient. "Taylor, you can't be going out there like that, not when you can't even take a few steps." I wanted her to listen. I had to bring it up to O'neil about Taylor. She was gonna hate me for it.
I walked up to Captains shack, he was preparing himself. "Captain?" I knocked before walking in. He looked at me and smiled. "I wanted to talk you about Taylor, she's hurt, her foot hasn't healed up and she wants too fight, I'm worried about him going out there like that." I said.
"Don't worry about it, I'll call her in and talk to her. I don't want to risk a life that can be saved." He reminded me. I smiled and walked off. I walked towards Dax and Cameron. "Hey guys! Are you ready?" I raised my hand up and waved. "Ready as I'll ever be." Said Dax. Cameron looked nervous but let off a small smile.
"Where's Danica and Keenan?" I asked. "They should be here soon, they had last minute preparations." Cameron said. I nodded. I was ready for war.
"Okay, all united form up into your squad's and March behind me. Do not get distracted, do not observe the area, just keep going." Captain stood infront of the gate and eyed everyone down. We all lined up together. I watched Taylor stand beside Charlotte. Captain must've told her the news. I could feel how angry she was at me.
Two Soldiers opened the gate and we marched down the pathway towards the neighborhood. Our footsteps seemed to be getting louder and louder. It was echoing in my ears.
We arrived at the neighborhood. The wind blew the flags on the flagpoles and whistled through cracked windows. Cars had moss growing near the tires. I was on alert. I could see a group on mindless wondering in the distance. Everyone around me seemed to breathing heavily. It was almost like we weren't prepared.
"Alright, at this point we now must enter each house and clear out the mindless, move from this way forward." Captain said. I gripped onto my gun a little bit harder.
I joined the group of Cameron and Dax, we walked into a nearby house, sneaking in through the back entrance. I observed the house and noticed a multiple shattered pictures on the floor and the furniture twisted amongst everything.
"I'm gonna head upstairs." I looked back at the other two before walking cautiously up the broken up stairs.
The upstairs hallway had an intense aroma of mildew, along with black mold growing at the surface. I picked around the corner into the first bedroom on the left, it was noticeably a little girl's bedroom at one point. Pink paint was peeling off the walls.
I walked around the bed to observe both sides of the mattress, I wanted to see if something was hiding. My attention was grasped by a broken Pink photo frame on the ground. I picked it up and looked at the photo on the inside the shattered glass.
"My first trophy." I read out loud to myself, it seems the little girl that once lived here was active in spelling bees.
I snapped my head up as I heard movement coming from inside the closet. My head turned around as I stared at the slightly moving clothes. "Hello?" I said, it felt like I was calling upon death. I slowly walked over towards the closet. With a deep breath in I quickly opened the closet. Nothing. I shuffled around the clothes to see if there was a rat or something hidden within, still nothing.
I sighed and stepped back away from the closest. My relief was short lived as a loud scream caught my attention. I covered my ears and turned around. My heart fell into my stomach.
