"Come on you stupid thing." I mumbled. The saw my teacher assigned me barely even worked. After about six tries, it finally cranked up. I sighed, then proceeded to cut through the black marks of the wood. I was making a bench for my woodshop class.
After an hour or so of cutting, I finally stopped for the day. I picked up the wood and placed it in my workshed, as well as my saw. I made it up to my room and took my apron off. My laptop started going off. I walked up to it to see that Mercedes was calling me. I was confused since I haven't talked to her in a while.

"Hey Girl! How have you been?" She asked.
I didn't know what to think, she looked so different.
"I-Ive been great! How about you?"
"I've been mellow, okay so, do you remember Julia? She was in our 11th grade science class."
"Julia? Last name?"
"Julia Harper, she was in our mountain project, she dressed up as the mountain."
"Oh yeah, I know who she is, what about her?"
"So her cousin Wayne is throwing a party at his penthouse, she invited me and said I could bring someone, she's bringing some one as well, so I called you to ask you."
I had to think a good bit, we haven't talked in months. Why is she calling me now?
"Did you ask anyone else?" I asked
"Eh maybe one or two"
I sighed.
"Sure, I'll go with you."
She sqealed.
"Yes oh my God, thank you, I'll call you Friday when we are on the way to get you." She waved at me and hung up.
'What was that about?' I shook it off and sat down to process what I had just agreed too.
"Kaity, come here please." I heard my mom call from downstairs. I closed my laptop and rushed down to see her. I got down the stairs and into the kitchen. She was holding a phone to her ear on her shoulder while whisking eggs. She mouthed for me to finish whisking for her. I nodded and grabbed the bowl.
"Yes, I'm here, It's Diana Strong, Emilie's Mom."
She paused.
"Hey Dr. Cooper, I was calling to schedule a appointment for Emilie. Her stomach pain got really bad last night, I was wanting to check just in case."
My little sister Emilie has something going on with her stomach, we are currently in the process of diagnosing her.
My mother hung up, she then placed the phone down and looked at me.
"Em has an appointment Saturday with her doctor." She said
I was gonna be gone on Saturday, I leave Friday. I can't let my mom know what was going on. I'd miss my classes and she'd flip. This would be my first time ever sneaking out, and I'm in college.
"Are you taking her, or is dad?" I asked.
She rolled her eyes. "Well it won't be your dad, he's still working on that car." She seemed so sad, my dad never spends time with us anymore. I finished whisking the eggs and sat them on the counter. She needs me here Saturday but I already agreed to go with Mercedes, and plus, I've never been to a party in my whole 20 years of being alive. I heard clanking from outside and a loud bang. My mom looked at me then walked towards the garage. My dad was outside, pulling at the car bumper. "Timothy, please, come rest." She insisted. My dad shooed her away. She turned around with intense sadness on her face. Since my dad has been like this, I've been feeling mixed feelings about him, very disconnected. I got up and hugged my mom. I was never one to show any type of affection. After an event when I was younger, I wouldn't dare show any sign of weakness to people. She was appalled by my hug, and honestly, it felt good.
