"Kaitlyn.. Kaitlyn!" I jolted awake, rubbing my eyes I looked up and saw Danica and Cameron hovering above me. "Are you okay?" Cameron asked. I rubbed the side of face and felt the fence shaped marks. "Yeah.. I'm okay." I rubbed my head and stood up. I must've of fallen asleep on the gate.
"We have to go Scavenge today." Cameron Said.
I nodded and thanked them for waking me up. "I'll meet you at the gate in a hour." Danica said as they both walked off.
I walked towards me and Taylor's tent. I peaked inside and noticed she wasn't in there. That must've been why she didn't wake me up, she didn't even know I was gone.
I walked up to Charlotte and asked about Taylor's whereabouts.
"I haven't seen her since last night at the meeting, is everything okay?" She asked. "Yeah, just wondering where she is at, that's all."
An hour had passed and Taylor still was no where to be found. I met everyone at the south gate. "Has anyone seen Taylor?" I asked but no one has. "Is she okay?" Asked Dax. "I don't know, I don't even know where she is at." I began to worry about her well being.
"Charlotte!" I called out, she came running up. "Everything okay?" She asked.
"No, Taylor's missing. No one has seen her and I couldn't find her anywhere on camp." I said, voice shaking.
"Damn, okay, I'll have too issue out a search for her. That's not good at all." She rubbed her head and ran towards O'neils shack.
"This isn't like Taylor at all, I'm getting really worried." I sat down on a log beside Danica. She rubbed my back. "I'm sure she's out there somewhere." She reasured me.
Charlotte ran back up. "There's a search crew being sent out, we'll find her." She looked at me and smiled. I know she just wanted to be caring but it barely helped.
"Do you still want us to go and scavenge, or do we wait?" Asked Dax.
"It would be best to go scavenge, Taylor is probably fine, it'll get my mind off of it anyways, stressing myself out won't do me much good." I sighed and grabbed my bag, I needed to collect food.
I walked down a small path while pulling twigs and branches out of my face. My goal was to find a bush full of berries. We still had no weapons with us so we couldn't travel far, but I wanted to go far enough to where I could actually find something. I scope down and saw something blue hidden in a bush nearby. The closer I got the more I noticed the blueberries.
"Thank God.." I muttered as I reached down to collect the blueberries.
I placed the berries in my bag as I heard a loud yell. My head rose up and I observed my area. Someone was in danger.
I ran back up towards the camp as I saw Danica running up beside me, she looked just as confused and worried as I did.
"The hell was that?" She asked. "Hell if I know." I responded, in a panic. Keenan came running up. "Dax has been caught in some type of trap!" He yelled. Me and Danica looked at each other before running towards him. We follow keenan to a hung up Dax. "We found Taylor too." Taylor was sitting on a log and shaking. I sat beside her as keenan and Danica worked to cut down Dax from the net.
"Where the hell do you go? Why are you out here by yourself? This is dangerous Taylor!" I pelted her with questions. "You think I don't know that?!" She snapped at me, making me go silent. The other three tried not to noticed but the quick glimpses said it all. "I apologise, I was just worried about you. Someone being alone in the world right now is a scary thought."
"I understand that Kaitlyn, but sometimes I need space, space that's not around something that's upsetting me. I didn't mean to worry everyone. I just wanted to be alone." She sounded sad, and with me being sensitive to the feelings of others, I started getting sad.
"Again, I'm sorry for snapping at you, I'm just stressed out. I won't disappear like that again." She smiled at me.
"Thank you, anyways, what the hell happened with you, Dax?" I asked.
"What the fuck is this thing? Who the hell put it up?" He was hysterical. I got up and helped pull him down. His feet slapped the ground. "I'm ready to go back to camp." He was defeated. "We definitely have to bring this up to O'neil and Charlotte." Said Keenan.
We arrived back at camp. Cameron trailed up behind with an amount of food larger than all of what the others collected put together.
"Do you wanna mention that to O'neil? He's seems to have a liking towards you." Keenan pulled me too the side. "I'll handle it." I assured him.
I watched as Taylor walked off and got into the tent. The others started gathering around Dax and asked him questions.
I turned my attention to Charlotte.
"Hey, I need to talk to you and your uncle about something."
"That's crazy because he needs to talk to you as well." She grabbed my arm and drug me towards his shack.
The door creaked open. "O'neil." Charlotte said. He turned around and welcomed us in.
"She needs to talk to you as well, sir"
"Then talk." He demanded. I felt intimidated.
"Sir, it seems as if people are setting nets around the camp, like traps almost."
"I've been known about that, guess it's my fault for not letting everyone one. There's another camp around, the leader is teaching everyone that we are a threat. They want to capture one of us and question us." He put his hand down. "It's not a big deal like you think it is."
"But Kaitlyn, I had questions for you myself." He gestured for me to sit down.
I sat down.
"You and your friend came from the city, did you see anything out of the ordinary? Besides the obvious." He asked.
"No sir, not really, except for all cars and electrical device's crashed. Nothing worked."
"I see, get Dr. Bowing." He signed towards Charlotte.
"What else did you see, Kaitlyn?"
"Me and Taylor came across the one dude, he was sick. He seemed as if he had no control. He started seizing out, collapses and gets back up." Dr. Bowing walked in. "He got back up and turned towards me and Taylor. He had blood spewing out of his mouth and pouring out of his eyes. His turned pale and every vein in his body was noticeable. His eyes also turned white." I replied.
"That's not surprising to me, the human body doesn't know how to react to the chemicals that are being transmitted into it , the physical appearance of the mindless makes the perfect amount of sense." Dr. Bowing held her face.
"I believe that in order to restore this planet towards it's original baring, we need to figure out a plan to rebel against the mindless, show them that the free minded are Superior." O'neil had a look of prevalence In his eyes. "Since these things are under the control of The Golden Snakes, we need to make a plan, a plan that allows us to fight through fields of the mindless all the way to the front steps of the head quarters."
Me, Charlotte and Dr. Bowing stared at him, antsy for the next few words to come out his mouth.
"Give me a few days to be able to work this though, it's a tough decision to make. You are all dismissed."
I walked out and Charlotte pulled me to the side. "You need to get some mental rest, who knows what this man can come up with."
I nodded. I think I am gonna go rest.
