"I know about his passing. He told me. When we were still in District 10. Do you remember the black cat that had been following him around? I was that cat. I was Tim. I told him who I was. Master Felix knew that I was going to appear in your world so he shared his secret. He told me to take care of you when he is not around anymore"
Tears slid down Gyuri's face. "Why didn't you tell me when you already know about it?" she didn't even look at him.
"I don't want to hurt you. No... We don't want to. We know that you will force yourself to sleep to be in District 10"
Gyuri didn't reply and continued to sob silently.
They boarded off the bus after hours of riding it. Daniel followed Gyuri without any words. Gyuri glanced down at the old piece of paper in her hand and looked around. On the paper was an address. They walked through the neighbourhood. A cat stood at the side of the road, watching them. Daniel noticed it. He tugged on Gyuri's sleeves that made her turned to him. She followed his gaze. She smiled with tears blurred her eyes as she bent down to the cat. "Hey" she chocked.
Daniel followed her. The cat details were more visible at the close distance. The cat had the exact feature as him when he was Tim.
"This stray cat often visits Felix's home. We called him Tom" Gyuri spoke. "We used to play with him. At that time, he was so little. And now he's all grown up" she continued to caressed the cat. She buried her face in her clutch for a moment. She faced the cat again as it purred at her touch. "Hope you have a happy and long life even without Felix and me around" she mustered a smile.
Gyuri stood again and continued her walk. Daniel bowed to the cat before rushed to her.
The two stopped at a two-level property with a small yard and black main gate. A small smile appeared on Gyuri's face. "Found it"
She stood in front of the bell. She inhaled and exhaled to calm herself down. Gyuri mustered her courage to ring the bell. For a few moments the surrounding was silent. The gate was opened. The two helped themselves into the property. They waited before the front door. Daniel glanced at Gyuri. She looked tired and weak. The sound of knob turned took his attention to the door. The door was opened to reveal a woman in her early 40s. A small smile stretched across her face. "You're here, Gyuri"
"Mom!" she couldn't hold her tears and broke down there. Mrs. Lee pulled her into her embrace. She let Gyuri sobbed in her arms for a while. Mrs. Lee met eyes with Daniel and he immediately bowed. She replied him with a smile.
Mrs. Lee invited both Gyuri and Daniel inside.
"I'm so sorry" Gyuri voiced as she wiped her tears. Mrs. Lee passed her a tissue box which she received. "It's okay" Felix's mother replied with a smile.
"Finally you're here" she turned to her back where a photo frame with Felix's picture was placed. "Felix would jump around in joy if he knows you came to visit"
Gyuri chuckled. "I agree. He never stays still"
"I'm so sorry that we couldn't reach you when he was involved in the accident" Mrs. Lee voiced. "No it's my fault" Gyuri replied. "I didn't give my new address and phone number"
Mrs. Lee's eyes went to Daniel. "And this is..?"
"Oh" Gyuri noticed her gaze. "I'm Gyuri's friend" Daniel bowed to introduce himself. "My name is Kang Daniel"
"Owh, friend" Mrs. Lee smiled. "You two must be tired of walking here. Let me get some refreshment"
Mrs. Lee went to the kitchen with Gyuri following her. Daniel stood and walked around the house. Photo frames were hung on the wall. Most of the picture were Felix when he was a little boy with the little girl Gyuri. Daniel stopped at a picture of Felix. He recalled his conversation with Felix while they were in District 10.
-Flashback-
Felix was sitting on the lush green field, watching at the sky. He looked to his side and smiled at the cat. "Hey, Tim"
Felix looked ahead again. Daniel sat beside him. Felix turned to him again. "Sorry I really like to call you Tim"
"No worry" Daniel smirked. "That name is kind of cute though"
"Aish" Felix chuckled.
"Master Felix" Daniel called that made Felix turned to him. "You really need to tell Gyuri"
"I will" Felix sighed. "When the time comes"
"I know you don't want to hurt her..." "None of us want to hurt her, right?" Felix turned to Daniel. "Although we're just part of her imagination"
"Well, you're not. You're her memory" "Well... part of it. My soul came to disturb her unconsciousness" Felix chuckled. "I'm haunting her"
"In a good way" "Well, what can I say. Haunting her is the only fast way for me to find her when we lost contact for years. I don't blame her parents to move away and decided to cut our contact" "Well you can blame them. I want to blame them for not allowing Gyuri to write. I could die, you know" "Hey, don't do that. They're Gyuri's parents, the one she loves" Felix gave him a smirk.
Daniel sighed and nodded. "I will"
"Anyway" Felix began. He gave him a glance. "I have a request for you"
"I'll try to fulfil it" "Great" he inhaled before continued. "Please protect Gyuri at all cost"
"Don't worry. I plan to do that from the beginning. Since she's my creator" "And make her happy" "That..." Daniel hesitated. "Well... I think I will hurt her too in future"
"What? You'll disappear?" "Yes"
"Woah, you're being serious" Felix turned to him. "Well... nothing can be done then" he sighed.
"But I will try to keep her happy and protect her as long as I'm around" Daniel replied. Felix smiled. "That's a good boy. Thank you, Daniel"
Felix turned ahead again. The cat curled itself beside him. Felix smiled and pet it.
-End of flashback-
"Come have some juice" Mrs. Lee's voice brought Daniel back to reality. Daniel turned to the coffee table again where some refreshment was served. He joined Gyuri to quench their thirst. Mrs. Lee lifted her head to look at the picture of Felix Daniel has watched. "That was the latest picture we print of him"
Gyuri and Daniel followed her gaze.
"When was it taken?" Gyuri asked. "Orientation day this early year" Mrs. Lee replied. "He chose to attend the closest college. You know how a big baby he is. He never wants to stay far from home"
Gyuri smirked. She put down her glass. She looked into Mrs. Lee's eyes. "Mom, do you mind telling me about the accident? I wish to know about it"
Mrs. Lee swallowed past the lump. Slowly, she nodded.
"It was almost a month ago. He was walking home from his class. It was late afternoon. At the crosswalk near a playground" Mrs. Lee paused. Tears trailed down her cheeks at recalling the incident. Gyuri caressed on her back to comfort her. "Some kids were playing ball at the playground. The ball rolled onto the road. Felix was just trying to help. But he ran onto the road without noticing the crosswalk light did not turn green yet. He ran over by a car"
"But he survived the hit" Mrs. Lee continued. "While waiting for the ambulance, he lost too much blood"
Gyuri gasped and with that tears slid down her face. "No. He's anaemic"
"That's why he couldn't make it" Mrs. Lee held her tears. "The ball managed to return to its owner, but my child is not returned to me"
They were silent for a while. Gyuri composed herself. "You must have gone through a lot" she took Mrs. Lee's hand and held onto them. "No, child" Mrs. Lee patted on her hands. "We all did. He was a bright kid. His lost affected us all"
