CHAPTER 18

            Trees cast their shadow onto the earth below it. A pair of eyes slowly opened and stared ahead. Gyuri sat up and gulped a large amount of air into her lungs. She looked around. *Where am I?* Her eyes landed on a figure laid near her. "Wonwoo!" she stood and ran to him. She kneeled beside him and shook his body vigorously.

Wonwoo blinked his eyes open. His view landed on Gyuri's face. "Hey, Wonwoo" she called once again to wake him up. "Wow!" he sat up. He looked around in panic. "Where is the snake?!"

"What snake?" "Just now! A snake was about to bite you..."

They were silent. Gyuri finally recalled the incident that just happen. She turned to him. "Weren't we supposed to be in the park?"

The two met eyes. Their eyes widened. But before they could shout, a rustle was heard nearby. They looked to the bush where the sound came from. The rustle grew louder, like a predator approaching its prey. Gyuri and Wonwoo shut their eyes and lowered their heads in fear. An arrow went pass them and into the bush.

"Don't worry"

Both of them looked up to the source of voice. It was Daniel.

"Dan" Wonwoo called but halted as his eyes scanned him up to bottom. "What are you wearing?"

"My uniform" Daniel replied. He was in an ancient combat attire. He bent down to the bush and lifted a dead rabbit that was killed by his arrow just now.

Gyuri stood and dust the dirt off her skirt. "Wait, why do you kill that bunny?"

"So we can eat it?" "Eat? Hey, we can just go to the store..." her eyes went around once again. Her eyebrows furrowed. "Daniel, where are we...?"

"This is my world" Daniel answered simple. "What?!" Wonwoo stood. "You don't tell me..."

"Yup. In the story. As well as in her" Daniel pointed to Gyuri's head. "Head"

"What..." she was speechless. "That's ridiculous. Not everyone can get into District 10"

"It used to be like that. But right now at this moment" Daniel replied. "Things changed. We're in your story. That is under the control of your mind"

"Aish!" she held to her head. "This is confussing!"

"I know. You two need some time to take all this in. So" Daniel held up the rabbit. "Let's prepare our food and I'll tell you over lunch"

Wonwoo and Gyuri turned to each other before followed Daniel.

The three of them were sitting around the fire, enjoying their lunch.

"This feels so weird" Gyuri chuckled as she munched. "Being inside our story"

"I still have a hard time believing it" Wonwoo sighed. "So you tell me that we're here because of the snake that bit us?"

"Yup" Daniel replied. "The snake is one of Jinyoung's men that change into a snake. He sent his men to kill Gyuri. But since you tried to safe her, here you both are"

"Yea. About that" she turned to Wonwoo. "Thanks" she smiled.

Wonwoo looked away, avoiding her eyes. "You're welcome"

"By the way" Gyuri turned to Daniel. "How can Jinyoung recognise my face?"

"About that..." he cleared his throat and looked away. He stole a glance on her to check her expression. "He did come to visit you a few times"

"You mean he came to my world?!" "Nae" "And you didn't tell me?!" she was really surprised. She rolled her eyes in frustration. "Does anyone from the story can show up all they want into my world?!"

"That... I'm not sure" he smirked, hoping that her anger receded. "Never mind that" she sighed. "So what did he do there at my world?"

"Well, during his last visit, just like his other visit, you were sleeping. And we...well I did throw a few punches to him. But the thing is it's about your book..." "Daniel, tell me" she looked into his eyes. Daniel sighed. "He's the one who take away your turquoise book. So I tried to take it back. But I failed" he couldn't keep his eyes on her. "I'm so sorry"

"So you're telling me all this happen because Jinyoung have that book with him?" "I don't think so. Just because he has the book doesn't mean he owns the story and can change it. He's just a character... just like me" "Yea you got a point" Gyuri sighed. She turned to Daniel again. He met her eyes.

"Thank you, for trying to protect the book" "But I failed" "It doesn't matter. As long as you put some effort to save it. Things happen, Daniel" she gave him a small smile. Daniel smiled back.

"So what are we going to do now?" Wonwoo asked. They looked at each other.

"We need to get that book back!" Gyuri curled her hand into fist.
