~Break~

Did you know that it only takes four minutes for the brain to become unresponsive after you are submersed underwater?

You are dead quicker than the time it takes to walk to a different class in the day.

When someone is drowning, no matter how hard they try to keep that water out, they involuntarily take a breath. This flood their lungs with water and ultimately kills them. It doesn't matter how hard you fight to keep that water out, you will always let it in.

I was drowning.

My head was being shoved underwater and I couldn't escape the steel grip of the man that should've love me more than anyone in the world. A father was supposed to teach his daughter how to be strong, not be the reason she needs to be.

The pain in my lungs intensified by the second. My eyes blurred in an out of focus at the lack of oxygen to my brain. There was no way out of here. I was going to die.

The funny thing was that my body knew my acceptance of that fate before I did.

Because with one last push, I breathed in the water.

"Ari! Ari wake up!" A voice called as I shot up from my bed, desperately gasping for air. "Hey, hey, hey. Look at me you're okay!"

My hands were scratching at my neck rapidly trying to breathe, but it was impossible. Lorenzo grabbed both of my hands in his and put them against his chest. "Ariana look at me. Feel my heartbeat? Focus on that okay?"

I focused my mind solely on the feel of his heartbeat trying to stop the hyperventilating. "Now breathe. In through your nose. Count to 3. Out through your mouth. Count to three. Yes, just like that. Keep doing that for me okay?"

Nodding, I continued to listen to his heartbeat and breathe. Eventually I was calmed down enough to be able to speak. "I-I'm sorry" I croaked, running my fingers through my hair.

Enzo's eyebrows furrowed, "Why are you sorry love?"

"You shouldn't have to deal with me like this" I simply muttered, training my eyes to the floor.

It was silent for a moment.

"Medlar, this isn't a one way thing you know? I promised you that I would be here when you woke up and I meant it. Plus, you saved all of our lives so I kinda owe you one" He said smirking lightly.

I couldn't fight the small smile forming on my face as I pushed him away jokingly. "Thanks"

He just waved me off, "Now since you aren't supposed to be doing anything, your schedule for the next few days consists of sitting in this bed. I went to your room and Onyx gave me some books that she said you were reading so I brought them in here for you..." The boy said scratching his neck.
