Campaign

(A/N): Just a heads up, I don't do heavy editing on my chapters. That way I can get them out as quickly as possible. I also try to make something fun, romantic, or important happen in each chapter, so let me know if you think I'm doing a good job. And I'm always open for ideas.

Miss. Bustier gave you the rest of the class period to work on Adrien's speech, and you used every second of it. You wouldn't have as much time as Marinette or Chloe because you and Adrien had a fencing class right after school that would take up several hours of your time.

When the bell ran once again you went ahead of Adrien so you could catch up with Marinette. He was okay with it, telling you he could clean up all of the papers you had been working with.

"Hey!" you called out to Marinette, slowing your run to a jog. You grabbed her shoulder, but before you could say another word the class huddled around Marinette to listen to what she had to say.

Alya pushed her way to Marinette's side. "So, let's hear the scoop on your campaign! How are you gonna represent?"

Marinette tittered for a moment. She glanced around at her classmates, stammering uncontrollably. "Represent? Uh, I have no idea. I still can't believe I raised my hand..."

"Way to go, Marinette!" Rose said, jumping up a bit. "I'm so proud of you." She saw you, too and giggled. "Oh, hey, (Y/N)! Great job today- you spoke from the heart, it was truly authentic!"

Your eyes widened for a moment and you swallowed hard."N-no... that's all Adrien. He's the one running."

Rose rolled her eyes jokingly and gestured to the two of you. "Well, since one of you are going to win, can we get more comfortable chairs?--"

You bit your lip, Adrien should be here with you. It wasn't fair for you to make promises on his behalf. But then you remembered what he had said, 'I always know what you're thinking. We're perfect together.'

Maybe you and Adrien already had the same ideas.

"--They are so hard, I can barely concentrate in class."

Marinette nodded, but you cut in, "Well, we would have to raise money, and have a poll so that students can decide which chairs are the most comfortable."

"Maybe pink ones!"

"Whatever the majority decides," you countered. You didn't think it was right to go around making promises just to get votes. You wanted to be honest and tell your peers exactly what it would take to fulfill their requests.

"And it'd be primo if we could listen to our beats while we study in the library," Nino added, holding up his speaker.

"With headphones," you countered, wagging your finger at him. He fist-pumped the air, giving you a high-five.

"Adrien!" Alya called out. "Marinette can count on your vote, right?"

He looked at her with a puzzled expression. "I..." He didn't seem to know how to respond. However, when he looked at you a small smile grew on his face. "I guess my running mate did such a good job campaigning that everyone forgot I'm the one running for class rep." He flashed you a smile and gave you a small wink. "But I don't mind sharing the spotlight."

He ruffled your hair and then walked off, you told him you would catch up to him in just a minute then turned back to Marinette. "Why didn't you vote to have me run in the election?" you demanded, flaring your nostrils.

"I'm sorry. I would have, honestly!" she squeaked. Her eyes darted around the area, but nothing would help her out of this situation. "I-I just freaked out when I found out you and Adrien wanted to run together."

Releasing a heavy breath you responded, "You claim to love Adrien, but if you really did you wouldn't try to hog him to yourself." You pointed an angry finger in her face. "You should want him to be happy. Quite frankly, I think you're being rather selfish." You pursed your lips and crossed your arms. Marinette, Alya, Rose, and Juleka gasped. Apparently they thought Marinette was the most giving person in the class. "Maybe if you focused more on him you could actually hang out with him and get to know who he really is," you growled lowly and took off, jogging to catch up to Adrien who was waiting outside the locker rooms.

You sighed heavily in frustration, leaning your shoulder against the wall. There were a few minutes before you would need to change into your gear, but for some reason Adrien looked rather antsy.

"Hey, what's up?" he asked you.

You shook your head at him and smiled.

"Oh, nothing.  I just hope this election gives you what you want--"

"I already have it," he cooed breathlessly. But it seemed as though he didn't mean to say it because sweat began to bead up at his forehead. "I-I mean, the... the opportunity, of course." He chuckled dryly, inspecting your face for any negative reaction.

You rocked your head side-to-side a few times, scrunching up your nose. "But you deserve so much more than just the opportunity to run. You deserve to have your voice heard for once!" you pressed on. "I don't want the class to forget who you are like Alya did. Everyone should hear your ideas." You snorted to yourself. "Adrien, you're so smart, and compassionate. No one is better suited for the position than you are. It drives me crazy that people don't see you the way I do."

Adrien stared at you for a solid 30 seconds before his facial expression changed. It went from one of processing, to one of comprehension, then gratitude. His eyes became slightly glossy and he suddenly couldn't look you in the eye.

"I-I... th-thank you... um, (Y/N)."

You slowly pulled him into a hug. His arms went around your shoulders and your arms wrapped around his waist. Adrien was probably the only boy you would feel comfortable hugging like this, the only one that didn't feel like betraying Chat Noir as your boyfriend.

"We'll work on that speech all night, okay?" you promised, looking up at him with a soft expression. He nodded gratefully and rested his chin on top of your head, squeezing you a little tighter.
