Screams of the crowd echoed through the stadium, the music was still blaring and the lights were still flashing. The stage was a riot of colors and minions. Another burst of music notes erupted from Melody Masher's hands, sending a plume of smoke and sparks into the air.
She stood tall in the center of the stage, clutching her fists angrily as you dodged and rolled out of the way. Melody Masher's angry cackle echoed throughout the stadium. "I can go all night!" Her voice crackled with a new intensity.
"This isn't going to take that long," you growled. You knew you didn't need Ladybug and Chat Noir to defeat Melody Masher, but you would have liked their help. You glanced over your shoulder to see Spider handling himself against the mind-controlled crowd very well. His movements were quick and sharp, he wasted no time and no energy.
Melody Masher conjured a variety of notes in her hand and hurled them towards you. You jumped up again, this time getting closer with each note you dodged. She became more and more irritated. She moved from her spot on the stage and called out for some of her minions to come help her.
"Is that all you've got?" you called out, your voice steady despite the gravity of the situation. "I'm tired of the same old tune!"
Melody Masher's eyes narrowed. You needed to find where her akuma was hiding. You pulled out your nunchucks and closed the distance between the two of you. She swung her giant microphone at you like a club, but you managed to duck under it and begin your attack.
Your nunchucks sliced through the air with a rhythmic precision. The strikes were rapid, aiming for her head and torso. Melody Masher managed to dodge many of your attacks, but the ones that landed were extremely effective.
You swung your nunchucks near her face, she dodged smoothly, which was what you expected. You spun low then shot back up quickly with a kick to Melody Masher's other hand. The microphone she had been holding flew out of her hand and off the stage.
"NO!" she screamed, lunging for the microphone. You jumped out faster, putting both of your hands on it and snapping it in half. It crumbled like sand and a black akuma flew out of.
"Spider!" you shouted, pointing, "the akuma! Destroy it!"
He turned from the mob and hurried over to the akuma, "Envenomate!" he shouted, reaching his fingers out to touch the akuma. It seemed to melt down and break apart until nothing was left except a pile of dead white insect parts and luminescent black powder.
"Woah," you whispered. You knelt down to rub the black powder between your fingers. It was a fine powder, almost like a dust. "I wish I had something to put this in." You stood back up and took a step away from the pile. You had to make sure Jennie Kim was okay.
You turned around to see she was still on her hands and knees, her head hanging down and her black hair covering her face. "Are you okay?" you asked, helping her stand up. She nodded shyly. "What happened? Why were you akumatized?"
"There was a fan, a real creep, who kept trying to get on stage. Security grabbed him, but he broke free and managed to get on stage with us." She looked down at her feet. "Eventually security managed to grab him again, but I just wished I could control all my fans so that stuff like this doesn't happen again."
You nodded solemnly. "I see, I'm really sorry you had to deal with that. I'm going to be here if you decide to finish the concert so that nothing like this happens again." You gestured to Spider. "My partner will be here as well." Spider seemed to perk up at you calling him your partner.
You stepped away from Jennie and motioned for Spider to watch over her. "Optimal Revamp!" you shouted, holding your hand up in the air. You brought it back down to the ground and thousands of tiny bats flew around you, repairing everything they passed. "I'll be right back," you told Spider.

After the concert, you and Spider took off towards an empty rooftop to debrief about the night's events. Spider stood at the edge of the roof, the soft glow of the halfmoon casting a silver hue over the two of you. A gentle breeze blew through your hair. The stars were out, twinkling in the clear night sky, lighting up your orange eyes as Spider looked down at you.
"Thanks for all your help tonight," you said softly. Your eyes were so bright, and Spider couldn't stop watching the stars dance in your eyes. His heart ached knowing you were with Chat Noir, because he indeed knew your secret identity, but he would never tell you that. He had hoped your near death experience with Chat Noir would have showed you that he was an idiot who didn't know what he was doing.
"It was my pleasure," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady. You smiled.
Spider shrugged, turning away from you. "It's the least I can do for this city."
A brief silence fell between the two of you, the only sounds the chirping of crickets and the distant hum of the city settling in for the night. His mind raced, trying to find the right words to convey what he felt without crossing any lines. But nothing else he wanted to say would be appropriate. Maybe he could try talking to you at school.
"Are you okay?" you asked.
Spider nodded his head. "Just tired, I guess. Long day."
"Yeah, me too," you replied, stepping next to him on the ledge, preparing to take off. Your shoulders nearly touched. His heart soared and shattered at the same time. "Goodnight, Spider."
"Goodnight, Moonbeam," he replied, his voice thick with emotion. You grinned at his nickname, thinking it was just a funny little play on the fact that you were a bat. He watched as you jumped off the building and opened up your arms, gliding off into the night.
Spider stood there for a moment longer. He knew he couldn't change your heart. But tonight, in the quiet of the night, he allowed himself to imagine what it would be like if he could.
And for now, that had to be enough.

When you arrived home, you detransformed as you fell into bed. You figured it would be a while until Adrien returned home, so you gathered your things to shower and get ready for bed.
When you finished your shower, you heard a knock on your bedroom door. You quickly wrapped your towel around your torso and made your way to the door. You opened a small crack to see it was Adrien. You didn't want to open it much farther since you were in nothing more than a towel.
"I got home and you weren't here," Adrien said. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I checked in here earlier, and when you didn't answer I checked the rest of the house." He scratched the back of his neck. He didn't want to tell you that he was actually a bit nervous you had gone out after all. Word quickly spread that one of the hottest guys in school had asked you out to the concert. Adrien knew Lucas, the upperclassman in your fencing class who was always looking at you.
"I stayed in all night," you lied. Adrien, of course, didn't know you had to lie, and he had wanted you to tell him you stayed in to put his mind at ease. However, you just weren't convincing enough. He didn't distrust what you said completely, but it was enough to make him question.
"Okay," he said, pressing a gentle kiss against your cheek. "Goodnight."
