"Y/N?" someone waved their hand in your face.
"Hm?" you snapped out of your daydreaming.
"You okay?" it was Choi Beomgyu. He pulled the empty desk chair one seat ahead of you out, and sat in it while facing you.
"Oh, yeah, what're you doing here?" you realized most of your classmates had left the room for dismissal already.
"I wanted to come get you as soon as school ended," he smiled. You sighed. That smile. You strangely felt it weighing down your heart. Now that you had finally settled things with Hyunjin and brought him back to school, you had realized your own neglect of Beomgyu.
"What do you want to eat today?" you asked him.
"Me? Mmmm, sandwiches!" he nodded his head.
"Okay, I'll buy today," you said standing up.
"Sweet!" he said.
"C'mon, let's go," you smiled.
______
[BEOMGYU]
"You know it's kind of crazy that society has tricked us into thinking that eating an entire foot of bread is bad, but when you put meat and veggies in it, it's fine." Beomgyu munched.
"You do have a point," you swallowed.
"I'll be right back I'm gonna get a refill," Beomgyu pushed his chair back.
"I'll get it!" you grabbed his cup, standing up.
"Oh, okay," he relaxed. What's up with her? Beomgyu wondered. Ever since Hyunjin had returned to school, Beomgyu noticed that you had been doing a lot of things for him. Suddenly, your phone began to vibrate on the table, the screen facing down. Without thinking, Beomgyu flipped it over. To his surprise, a contact named "." was calling. Should I answer it? he bit his lip. A contact with nothing but a punctuation mark was quite intriguing. She won't be mad right? the phone was in his hand now. If I wait any longer it will stop ringing, he put the phone up to his ear, pressing the answer button. As Beomgyu was about to open his mouth, a voice greeted him.
"I didn't think you would pick up," it said.
Beomgyu froze. Hwang Hyunjin?!
"Y/N? Hello?" he said. Beomgyu hung up the phone and returned it to the table. He waited silently and patiently, as you soon returned to the table.
[Y/N]
"Sorry, that took so long I spilled the drink in my shirt." you said. Beomgyu glanced down to see the spill stains on your chest.
"It's fine," he said in a monotone voice. You could tell the air had changed. Your phone began to buzz. You lifted it up just to check and see who was calling. You tensed up. Why is Hyunjin calling me?!
"Go ahead, pick it up." Beomgyu said. You stopped for a moment. Does he know?
"He's waiting," Beomgyu sighed. Shoot, he does know...
"I'd rather not," you gulped, declining the call. There was an awfully painful silence following your words.
"I thought you had blocked him," Beomgyu sipped his drink.
"I did," you bit your lip. He raised an eyebrow.
"It's a long story," you scratched your neck.
"We've got time," he said. You took a deep breath. Beomgyu's energy seemed sensitive. Like it was covering up what he really wanted to say. He seemed to be experiencing multiple emotions, but was staying calm on the outside to hear your explanation.
"Well, I'm sure you remember, but Hyunjin went missing last week and this Monday," you said.
"We all knew he was skipping school, but continue," he said.
"Right, well, um, on Monday I was growing really impatient with him," you said. You weren't scared, just nervous. You had seen Beomgyu's serious side before, but not directed at you.
"So I unblocked his number, and I texted him," you continued. He nodded.
"He left me on read, so I called him and asked where he was," you said.
"I then asked Jeno for the exact location on the skate park, which where he was, and I went there." you said. Beomgyu only blinked.
"Once I found him, I told him that I didn't like him anymore and that he needed to go back to school!" you said.
"And just like that he went back?" Beomgyu said in a tone suggesting he was doubting your statement.
"Really! I yelled at him and told him he was throwing his entire academic career over some stupid drama!" you told him.
"Okay, well let's say that was really all you did to make him go back to school," Beomgyu started.
"Y/N, you aren't his mom, and the entire time he was gone you were acting so... off," he said.
"Don't you care about my feelings at all? You were solely keeping the relationship secret because of Hyunjin and now you still chase after him when I'm here," he told you.
"That's not true," you said.
"At this point, you're more like Hyunjin than anything," he stood up.
"I am not! You wouldn't know that," you said.
"Either way, you still haven't let go of him, and I don't know when you will," he rolled his eyes before picking up his backpack. You sat there in silence.
"Let's talk later, I've gotta go," he said. Your eyes welled up as you held back tears. You ruin everything huh, you thought to yourself.
