chapter 24: hate

12:34 PM, Thursday, March 19th, 2021

[FLASHBACK : HYUNJIN]

"Y/N!" someone called your name from behind.
"Hm?" you spun around. Hyunjin immediately hugged you, picked you up, and swung you around.
"Ahhh!!" you squealed. It was lunch period and the two of you stood on the empty track.
"I waited for you," you crossed your arms.
"Sorry," he chuckled awkwardly.
"You're hungry right?" you asked him as you say down on a metal bench next to the track.
"Yes!!" he clapped his and joined you on the bench. You brought out two pink and green plastic boxes.
"Eat well okay?" you handed one on the boxes to him.
"Wah~!" he opened the box to reveal an assortment of foods. Inside the box were cherry tomatoes, rice balls, poached eggs, lotus roots, sausages, pickled carrots, cucumbers, and a smaller containers with sauce.
"I worked hard so eat good," you poked him with your chopsticks.
"Thank you~" he took a bite out of a rice ball.
"Is it good?" you asked as you shoved a cherry tomato in your mouth. He nodded his head with a warm smile.
"My dad made the sausage," you said.
"It's good," he munched.
"You gotta get me pudding bread though," you said.
"Of course," he said.

Hyunjin was walking towards the school exit when someone put their hand on his shoulder. He immediately turned around to see one of his friends.
"I gotta tell you something," his friend said.
"Oh, what's up?" Hyunjin asked with his hands in his pockets.
"Let's get outside first," he said, skipping forward. Hyunjin quickly followed his friend to the school courtyard.
"Hyunjin," he locked eye contact with him.
"What?" he had a puzzled look on his face.
"I went looking for you at lunch today," he said.
"And I saw you with that girl on the track," he told Hyunjin. Oh no.
"And look, I don't care who you toy with, but just remember your friends come first," he said. What?
"Um, what do you mean toy with?" Hyunjin asked.
"Hyunjin I know you don't like her, I mean she gives you free test answers and good lunch apparently." he told Hyunjin.
"Yeah..." Hyunjin began to lose concentration.
"Just, you know, remember that we're forever and she's temporary." Hyunjin's friend said before walking off. Hyunjin didn't know what to think, he felt a hole in his body. He slowly carried on to the bus stop where you sat, waiting for the bus.

He quietly sat down next to you, looking straight ahead. The bus came almost immediately after, Hyunjin boarding the bus first. What happened? you felt a strange vibe from him. You looked up at him as the two of you sat on the bus, he seemed to be in his own thoughts.
"You okay?" you asked quietly.
"Mhm," he nodded his head. That was when you felt him look you up and down multiple times. You were starting to feel that same energy Hyunjin had when was with his friends. At that moment he no longer felt like your boyfriend, he just felt like the Hwang Hyunjin you encountered with Wang Yiren. Soon his stop came and he suddenly leaned down to your level.

"I hate it when people say bad things about you," he said before giving you a quick kiss, an annoyed look on his face. Your eyes widened in shock and you lifted your fingers up to your lips. Things like kissing were quite a taboo on buses or trains in your city, so you were very surprised at Hyunjin's actions. You watched as he walked down the sidewalk, slowly disappearing from your vision.
