chapter 7: trouble in paradise

1:22 PM, Monday, November 2nd, 2021

Students entered the classroom, the english teacher was nowhere in sight.
"Where's the teacher?" you asked Choerry who sat one seat in front of you to the right.
She shrugged.
"You have any pencil leads?" she asked you.
You handed her two.
"Thank you." she blew a kiss at you.
"Hey Hyeongseo, where's the teacher?" Choerry tapped on a brown-haired girl's shoulder.

"Oh he's bringing in the new student," she said.
"New student? We're getting a new student?" Choerry asked.
"Yeah, he was in my math class earlier too." she smiled.
"Well? Is he handsome?" she asked.
"Super!"
"No way, we've needed some cute boys in this school," Choerry said.
"What do you mean by that?" Eric jumped in their conversation.
"Nothing." she looked at Hyeongseo, trying not to laugh.
"This school has plenty of cute boys, I don't know about girls though," he said.
"Don't make me take off my shoe!" Choerry threatened him.
They continued to laugh and talk as you tuned them out. Sleep, let's just sleep Y/N, you put your arms on your desk and burrowed your head into them. As things got quiet you thought you must be falling asleep.
"Pssst!" Choerry got your attention.
You lifted your head.
"Wake up, it's showtime!" she whispered, pointing over to the front. The teacher was outside the door.
"Good afternoon everyone," the teacher walked in.
The class responded with an effortless good afternoon.
"As some of you may have already been introduced to him in previous classes, let's welcome our new student." he gestured to someone standing outside the door to come in.

In walked a tall, blonde-haired boy, with sharp eyes and broad shoulders. You felt your heart drop ten stories.
"Hi everyone, I'm Hwang Hyunjin, my family just moved to the area, please take care of me well," he said.

Holy shit.
Though hiding your emotions was your specialty, at that moment you couldn't hide the surprise on your face. This can't be real. I-I'm still sleeping, right? This must be a nightmare.
"Choerry pinch me!" you whispered to her urgently.
"What, you like him that much?" she joked, pinching your hand.
Ow...Oh gosh. I can't believe this.
He must have noticed the movement between you and Choerry because his face suddenly changed when he noticed you. It was a shocked expression. You felt your stomach turn. I wanna go home, you looked down. You couldn't look at him anymore. This has got to be the worst day ever. You couldn't believe that Hwang Hyunjin, the guy in your hidden camera roll, the skateboarder from the café, your ex from heaven and hell, was standing right in front of you.

You opened your locker quickly. Beomgyu watched with a confused expression as you hurriedly zipped your bag up. I gotta go and it needs to be now before he sees me.
"Hey Y/N-" he tried to say something, but you cut him off.
"I'm so sorry Gyu, I have to go, text me okay?" you said walking away.

"What's up with her?" Jeno said creeping up behind Beomgyu.
"No idea." he shrugged.
"Wanna get ramen?" Jeno asked.
"I'm down." Beomgyu closed his locker.
"Then let's go," he walked forward, then turned around to face Beomgyu.
"Gyu~" he teased, running away playfully.
"Hey!" Beomgyu chased after him.

You were almost out of the building when someone pulled your arm, dragging you into a storage closet. You gulped, it was Hwang Hyunjin.
"We shouldn't be here," you said, not making eye contact.
"Hello to you to Y/N," he said.
"I've got somewhere to be," you said, turning to the slightly opened door.
"We need to talk." he closed the door with his hand, putting you in a kabe-don position. It was dark and quiet.
"Can we at least do it outside?!" you reasoned.
"Fine." he lifted his hand.

You walked to the front park.
"What do you want Hyunjin?" you asked.
"What do I want? You ghosted me Y/N! One day you're my girlfriend, the next day you have me blocked on all platforms, moved, and changed schools!" he had a sadness in his voice.
"Look-" he cut you off.
"You literally broke my heart into a million pieces Y/N!" his eyes began to water.
"I think it would be better if we just forgot about our past," you said.
"And I still want you back!" he said. You didn't know what to say.
"Maybe you should think about how others feel too!" you blurted out.
He huffed.
"Maybe, just maybe, there was I reason I left you in the first place!" you said.
"Did you ever think about that?!" the anger was coming out of you.
"I'm not giving up! You can't leave me like this Y/N! Don't you think it's fate that both our parents moved out here and enrolled us in this school together?" he was honestly just spitting out whatever he could to make you stay.
"Maybe it's punishment." you started to walk away. He grabbed your wrist.
"Can't you at least tell me!" he said.
"Don't you remember Hyunjin? I was just your tutor." you pulled your hand away. He watched as you walked away, he was starting to understand.

You made it home in one piece, your body was sprawled across your bed. You were staring at the infamous photo of Hyunjin in your hidden photos album. It was the only one you had left.

Why can't I delete it? Why did you have to pop back up into my life after I finally let you go. Why did you have to show up when I have a boyfriend now. This was my fresh start! Hyunjin, why do I still miss you too? I miss the real you, the person you hid from everyone else.
You sighed.
"Ugh! I'm going to bed early," you said out loud.
This can be your fresh start too you know.
