"I can't believe I have to do this right now," Choerry huffed.
"You're the one who begged me to come here," Hyunjin said, holding his skateboard in one hand. The two of them stood facing across from each other in the public library entrance. The air was tense and awkward.
"Look, I just wanna pass this stupid class, and I know that you'll fail us if I don't make you do this work with me," Choerry rolled her eyes. Hyunjin tapped his feet.
"Well, let's go find a table then," she walked past him. I hate group projects, Choerry thought. Hyunjin slowly rotated his posture and followed after her, dragging his feet across the carpeting. Though suddenly, she stopped.
"Oh, and just so we're clear, what Eric said was complete shit on April Fool's day, so don't go thinking I'm doing this cause I like you or something," she turned to him. Hyunjin raised his brows.
"Cursing I see," he scoffed. I didn't think she would be the type to do so, Hyunjin thought.
"I only use that type of language to people deserve it," she turned back around.
"Well screw me then," Hyunjin muttered as he shrugged.
The two teens found a lonely table in the middle of two other empty tables. They would've picked one of the ones on the sides but they both seemed to need a wiping down. Choerry grunted as she sat down next to Hyunjin, unzipping her white backpack. Hyunjin looked down at his. I guess I should get my stuff out too, Hyunjin scooted his chair back for more room to bend over. As he ducked down by the table side, he noticed Choerry quickly cross her legs.
"Okay, I'm not a pervert so maybe you don't have to do the most while we're here!" Hyunjin rose his upper half back up to look at her.
"Whatever," she kept her legs crossed. He let out a deep sigh before returning to his bag. As he pulled his school computer put of his black bag, his eyes lingered under the table. Those shoes... he stared at Choerry's white converse with an infamous purple stripe around the sides.
"Hey!" he poked his head back up.
"What?" she asked as she smacked the gum she put in while Hyunjin was digging in his bag.
"Don't think I just forgot about that shoe incident," he pointed his finger in her face. Choerry tensed up. Oh shoot, he remembered, to Choerry, that topic had been a ticking time bomb.
"About that..." Choerry pouted her lips.
"Well...?" Hyunjin titled his head downward.
"What?" Choerry raised her right eyebrow.
"Aren't you gonna say sorry?!" he huffed.
"Huh?" Choerry scoffed which quickly turned into a giggle.
"Me, apologize to you? You're kidding right?" she chuckled.
"Am not," he leaned back in his chair.
"Oh gosh, sorry, I've gotta be quiet or we'll be yelled at," she placed her hand over her mouth. You can apologize for possibly being too loud but not for assaulting my head with your shoe bottom? Hyunjin thought.
"We should get, uh, hehe, started," she said between light snickers.
"Whatever," he rolled his eyes, coming back up from his seat.

Choerry and Hyunjin were silently hard at work with earbuds in their ears. Though her eyes were glued to her computer and her notebook, Choerry noticed when Hyunjin took out his earbuds and turned to her.
"What?" she asked as she paused her music.
"Do you think we should add the information from the background essay?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" she pulled her right earbud out.
"I know it was extra credit, but I did the background essay last week to prep for the project," he flipped his pencil around between his fingers.
"So we can use my information from that and add it to the document," he said. Choerry was surprised. He actually did that background essay? It wasn't even for a grade, she thought.
"I mean yeah, that sounds good," she said. Hyunjin lifted his earbud just to hover over his ear before turning back to Choerry.
"What? You didn't think I was a good student?" Hyunjin asked.
"Well..." Choerry wasn't sure what to say.
"Wow, just gonna judge a book by it's cover like that?" he teased, leaning back in his chair.
"Excuse me? I never said anything like that," Choerry folded her arms.
"Uh, yeah, you did, plus you were totally thinking it," Hyunjin said. He's right, but that doesn't mean I'm like shallow or anything, Choerry kind of felt bad.
"I get it, it's because I'm so hot and popular that you just assume I'm dumb and don't do assignments," Hyunjin stretched.
"Yeah right, you have like three friends," Choerry said.
"Ouch," Hyunjin fake-winced.
"Sorry," Choerry only felt worse now.
"Well you're not wrong," he sighed.
"I just assumed that you didn't care about school since you skipped for like an entire week," Choerry pointed her pencil at him lazily.
"Plus, you always look distracted in class," she said.
"Aw, you pay attention to me?" Hyunjin clasped his hands together and pouted his lips sarcastically.
"I just people watch," Choerry rolled her eyes.
"I mean, you ever heard the teacher call out my name for people with missing work?" Hyunjin raise his eyebrows.
"Nope," she sighed.
"He's called out you though," he said smugly under his breath. An immediate crushing pain came down on his left foot.
"A-ah!!" Hyunjin grabbed his foot as Choerry snickered.
"You didn't have to stomp on me!" he whined.
"Let's finish this part up, it's getting dark," Choerry said as she picked up her earbuds.
______
Choerry and Hyunjin walked out of the library doors and out onto the sidewalk. The night sky above them looked like a black blanket decorated with only a few shining stars. The yellow tinted light attached to the front of the library illuminated above them.
"I guess we can use the art room tomorrow for the visual product," Choerry said to him.
"Yeah," Hyunjin replied. A long awkward silence built up between them. This was the most passive they had been to each other since when Choerry hadn't known about his past.
"Welp bye!" Choerry said awkwardly.
"Yeah later," Hyunjin replied quickly, shoving one hand in his pocket, and using the other to place his skateboard on the ground.
With that, the two thankfully strayed farther and farther from each other in opposite directions down the sidewalk. Thank gosh that's over with, Choerry sighed as she sped off. That was torture, she kept her gaze on the ground beneath her. I guess I did judge him though, she thought back to what Hyunjin had said earlier. It made her feel sort of gross. Choerry was nice to everyone. Always peppy, ready to be anyone's personal cheerleader. It was tiring sometimes, but she enjoyed the feeling she got when people came to her with the need of comfort. Was it wrong to be that mean to him? she thought. I was almost as shallow as Y/N said he used to be, she sighed. I bet Y/N will be proud of me for being passive today. I mean we didn't break out into a full-on brawl so, she smiled to herself as she thought of your encouraging words before she met up with him. "It'll be fine", and "just kick him if he's mean to you", were words of advice you had given her hours before. Today was a good day for us Choerry, wasn't it? Choerry spoke to herself in second person. People really are more than they seem. And so, she skipped off into the night, making her way home under the street lights.
