I closed the notebook as Rylan opened her eyes. She looked down at my hands in question but didn't mention anything.
"You had a nice nap, soldier?" I asked with a sly smile, and she rolled her eyes as she sat up straight and made sure her black sweatshirt was in the right place. Rylan got up from her seat and passed me as she went down to the bathroom.
I made sure she stayed as I opened my notebook again and smiled, seeing that I captured all of her. Her strong jawline, those high cheekbones and her hair up in a ponytail, which she always has. She looked so peaceful when she was sleeping. That hard cold look she usually has on her face turned into softness. She became vulnerable, not voluntarily, of course, but it was still there.
"She is beautiful," I closed my book in a hurry and turned to Joan, who smiled lightly at me.
"She is more of an asshole, really," I said and she chuckled as she shook her head at me and placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Then how come you drew her?" That was the only thing she said before leaving me alone. I opened my book once again, staring down at the image of Rylan. She has beautiful features, and I'm not going to deny that. It would be a crime if I couldn't admit that she is beautiful yet in a handsome way as well. I locked the book and placed it inside my bag as I heard the door close further behind me.
Rylan sat back down in her seat, her eyes drained and half-closed as it looks like she is about to pass out again. I didn't notice the dark spots underneath her eyes until I started to draw her. It made me wonder what keeps her awake at night.
Usually, they all have a story to tell, but not Rylan. She has tucked it deep inside of her somewhere. I'm not sure if I envy those who can hide it or not. But then again, I don't know her well enough to be sure if there is anything at all.
"Are you okay?" Rylan asked, watching me strangely.
"Yeah," I looked away from her as she woke me up from staring too long. She picked up her phone, and as she did that, I peaked back at her, wondering if I really did capture all of her in the drawing. Yet, I don't think anyone who could draw or paint her could do it perfectly. It wouldn't do her any justice.
"It's going to rain in London when we land," She said and met my eyes.
"Okay," I nodded.
"I need to go shopping; I don't have anything nice enough to wear for tomorrow evening," I explained, which made her clench her jaw tightly.
"We are not supposed to go out, Hadley," She sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose.
"I don't care," I folded my arms over my chest.
"I need something new; besides, you will be there with me, officer," I smiled cheekily, knowing it will bother her.
"Fine, I'll figure something out," She looked down at her phone, most likely going on a hunt for a place to go shopping. I honestly do have clothes to wear; I just didn't bring them. I do this all the time; it's the only way I get to go out of the hotel room.
Imagine being locked up in a hotel room all day, and when you are allowed to go out, it's to those boring fancy parties. People who have their heads stuck up in the air, with no knowledge of how the real world works like.
Older men talk about their business and how well they are doing. The wives try to wear the best and most expensive dresses to impress everyone, but honestly, they only hate each other as they whisper trash about the woman on the other side of the room so she won't hear.
With rumors of how she sleeps around, the troublemaker is nothing but a spoiled brat. It's not rumors though, it's the truth, but they don't know that for sure. While they do that, I try and see if there is anyone worth my time.
There is always someone's daughter around. Let's just say that is my way of revenge for all the crap talk. I know it's terrible, but if I have to suffer, then it would be nice to find a way to ease the pain a little.
