After this interesting insight Ahsoka wanted to know, why they did not do any combat training so far. Letho answered, that for once she has to commit becoming their apprentice and promise them to help in gaining back their lives first as well as without their physical form they can only create combatants as an illusion. That is very force intensive and they can only do it while wearing the talisman. So Ahsoka has to remain without the talisman for longer periods of time. She needs to let them know, when she feels ready.
After this discussion, Ahsoka, still leery, committed in being their apprentice and honoring them as their masters, helping them gaining back their lives, but not to become a Sith herself.
Letho then replied: "Now we can start the more difficult parts of the training. And I believe it is time now, for Ahsoka's present."
The others agreed and Darth Toth brought something. The talisman was floating in front of her, so that she could see it. Then he gave her the present which kinda looked like a light saber, but longer. The handle was about two and a half times the length of a normal light saber and it was bigger in diameter at one end, means it was a straight stick until it ended in a cylindrical expansion. Eagerly she wanted to turn it on, but Darth Toth prevented it: "Stop, let us explain first, before you get injured."
Displaying big eyes, Ahsoka looked at him in question.
With rapture Darth Toth pointed out: "We have crafted this light saber from our own three light sabers. It contains the three kyber crystals of the original sabers connected in a row, same for the three respective energy sources. As such the blade can extend from one to three times the length of a normal light saber. It depends how many crystals you excite. What you see at the cylindrical end is a focuser unit. With that you can focus and defocus the beam making it longer or broader. You can also divert part of the beam to the side. You see that is a mighty weapon. You can keep opponents at a distance with the extra-long blade, while you can strike them when they are still out of range with their own saber. If you block an attack from an opponent, you can defocus part of the beam to the side and cut the opponent in half by turning the side blade (or yourself if the saber is not turned to the correct direction initially). You can defocus the beam to about 160 degrees thus hitting several opponents nearby with one strike (though you can also injure your hench men, when not careful) or use the saber like a shield and a second saber for attack. In short a potent weapon, which you need to learn to wield. It took us years to craft it, just using the force, and robbed us of our own weapons. Though we give it to you happily."
Darth Letho continued: "For a start, this small lever has three positions, one crystal, then two, then three. So turn it on, but do not fumble with the focuser unit yet."
Ahsoka turned the lever and the saber light up with the normal length in a dark red. Then two, and in the last position with about three times the length of her own sabers.
Happily Ahsoka said: "Very nice, it fits to the color of my other two sabers. White and red will go well together."
Darth Toth jokingly: "Yes, we know, "and continuing seriously, "now I explain the focuser unit to you. The shifter button on the bottom of the top cylinder focuses or defocuses the beam. This magic button, which sits a little deeper than the surface, separates 30% of the beam to the side. This is the most critical for now, because it can injure you when the saber is at the wrong angle. Turn it a bit, OK. Now try!"
Ahsoka shifted the button and the beam got thinner and eventually extended to about four times the length of a normal saber. Then in the other direction it drew a cone shape about 1,5m in diameter but only a quarter of the length of a normal saber in depth. Then she readjusted to normal focus again and hit the magic button when the main beam reduced in length a bit and a side beam extended perpendicular. This was really a powerful weapon. An enemy would not be prepared for that side beam to come.
Ahsoka was really eager to try it out. In response Darth Ra Tak transmitted that they will begin with the combat training. He expressed the thought for need of the talisman and then try to create images of opponents. He retreated with the talisman so to put it over his body in the sarcophagus. A little later Ahsoka saw some faint type of Sith warrior coming towards her in the dark. The Sith was running right through her, disappearing in the dark again. The Sith's image was so faint, why Ahsoka saw him so late that she did not even manage to turn on the light saber fast enough. Then the Sith image came back. She hit it with the saber, but the Sith image again run past her without even stopping. Darth Letho called for Ra Tak to stop and come back. When they discussed this issue, it quickly got apparent, that combat training would not work that way. The images created were too faint to be seen fast enough in the dark. Hitting the image does not do any damage to the image, and same for Ahsoka if the image hits her. Then Ra Tak's spirit and the talisman need to be in his body to channel enough energy, which means, he cannot see what is happening with Ahsoka and the image. Ahsoka also said, she cannot use the force to "see" the attacking image. As it is not real, no pre warning, no sensing is coming from the force. This was a big setback for the group, they had no idea, how to do intensive combat training. The only thing Ahsoka could do was standard movement and pattern training with the light saber. This is what she did then and after some hours she was about as perfect as you can get with mere pattern repetition.
With that training completed, Ahsoka came to the 3 Siths and informed them about a wish in regards to the light saber.
Darth Toth surprised: "What wish is it? Are you not satisfied?"
Ahsoka: "The saber is great, and I want to call it the magic saber. Though there is a small improvement I would wish for?"
Darth Toth, rather annoyed: "What improvement? We contemplated long on its design."
Ahsoka: "On the same side where the magic button is, I would like to have 3 straight engravings, 3 straight lines running down from top to bottom of the saber hilt. So when I grab it, even in darkness, I know immediately, which direction the side beam is coming out."
Darth Toth, relieved: "If that is all, I will do that next time you rest. That is actually a good idea."
So next time he made those engravings.
