Warning: drug addiction. please read with discretion.

When Meredith visited her safe haven, the remaining trio resided down stairs.

"I don't understand she was fine." Dean was pacing back and forth on the floor. "Dammit, I don't understand why she won't talk to us."

Sam got up from the floor and threw the napkins away he had used to clean his sisters sickness. "Dean, calm down. Being an angry won't help."

"Well, of course I'm angry! You've seen her! Clearly, there is something wrong and she won't let us help her!" Dean exasperated. "Maybe I just need to get tough with her. Make her tell us what's wrong." He threatened. He knew it was a bad idea but he was beginning to run out of patience. He just wanted to know what was wrong with her. He couldn't help if he didn't know.

"No, Dean. We can't make her do anything. That will just make things worse and you know it." Sam shook his head and reasoned with his brother. He looked over to Bobby, who was chugging a glass of whiskey. "Bobby, you gotta help us out here. You gotta give us something to go on."

Bobby had no clue of her addiction but he knew she wasn't her normal self. He tried to help her as best as he could during those four months. Which wasn't a lot. He tried his best too, but the girl simply refused to comply with anything. Anytime he would try to get tough with her and make her do something she would start bawling. His heart couldn't take it. But he didn't give up on her. He helped her as much as she allowed. If it weren't for him she wouldn't have ate. If it weren't for him she would have died in that bed. It was extremely difficult for him too. Both of the men he looked at as sons were gone and the girl who he looked at as a daughter may as well been. No, he didn't know much about her current state, but he did know Meredith. He helped raise her just as much as Sam and Dean did. He was more a father to her than John ever was.

He sighed and looked at both boys, downing his whiskey. "You fellas need to understand something. When you guys left, Meredith developed a sort of routine." He sat up and looked at the boys, who were now sitting. "For four months her routine was nothing but laying in that bed. She didn't eat and that made her sick. Fevers, vomiting, hallucinations." He listed off. "It was her new sense of normal. Just because you boys are back doesn't mean those habits go away. It's what she learned to do. Meredith has been through hell. She's gonna be screwed up a little. You need to give her time. She needs to heal. Just because you're back in her life now doesn't mean all those wounds that were created are just gonna heal."

Sam and Dean sat and listened to his words. Their faces were pensive in thought.

Bobby continued. "You've got to be careful with what you say around her, boys. When she gets upset it's hard to calm her down. Don't mention Stefan. Don't bring up hell around her. Not unless you want a repeat of what just happened." He gestured to the floor. "You're right about something being wrong with her. She lost both of her brothers. The boys who raised her and took care of her. The world took away the only thing she's known. Of course, she's gonna be messed up. Give her some credit." Bobby's voice had began to raise slightly. It made him angry the way they were talking about her. As if her being damaged was an awful tragedy.

They stayed quiet and analyzed the information their uncle had given them. Sam was first to break the silence.

"Bobby...we just wanna know how to help her. Seeing her like this..it's killing me." Sam breathed out. And it really did feel like it too. Despite Dean's words of protest he continued to blame himself for his sister's state. Every bead of sweat, every nervous stutter, every time she rubbed her temples with growing stress, he all blamed himself. He was tired of seeing her dripping in pain. He just wanted to help her. Every time he saw her his mind rang like an alarm. Your fault! Your fault! Your fault!

"I know, Sam." Bobby replied. It was obvious Sam felt responsible. "I think the best thing we can do is give her time. Give her time to adjust back into what she called normal. We can't force her or she'll start to panic. But we need to be more involved. Convince her to eat more. Be more active. If we don't she isn't going to get better."

Sam nodded like he was taking mental notes. Dean still remained silent. His mind, however, was screaming loudly at him. What Bobby said made sense. It made perfect sense, really. But he still didn't feel right about it. Her facial expressions always seemed to be hiding something. She didn't like to be stared at. But he was going to give her the benefit of the doubt because she had been through hell. Bobby, was right. It was only reasonable that she acted this way. He still didn't feel right about it, of course, but feeling like he had control over the situation helped. He could help her knowing what was wrong with her. Was there more too it? He was almost certain there was, but this was enough for now. He was gonna take what he could get. They were going to fix her.

"Dean?" Sam snapped him away from his thoughts. He cleared his throat and nodded, looking at his family. "Yeah, okay." He agreed. "But I'm still going to keep an eye on her. I hate to say it but I don't think I entirely trust her." He didn't like saying those words. He knew what trust meant to his sister. If she had heard him say that it would have broken her heart even more.

They all nodded silently in agreement with their plan. Sam talked to Bobby about possibilities on how they could get her eating more and being active without raising too much suspicion. If she knew they were all watching her and waiting for her to get better she would clam up. Dean tried listening but he couldn't help but let his mind wander through dark possibilities of what they could be facing.

They had absolutely no clue.
