Sam-26
Meredith-18

Warning: drug addiction, talk of overdoses, and lots of tears are featured in this chapter.

Also, if you don't remember me saying, this series is based on Meredith's addiction. So, if you're ever wondering "where's Bobby?" i purposely left him out. i apologize if that is confusing, but it takes all of my energy focusing on Meredith. he will be added in some scenes, but mostly will not be included.

Sam and Dean never slept that night. They had stayed outside for several minutes, embracing each other and letting the agonizing reality set in. When they did go inside they just stared. Sat and stared at the limp girl on the couch. It was so obvious now. The light in her eyes, the color in her, it was all gone. Grey. It was all grey.

When they forced themselves to speak it felt painful, like every word was a stabbing pain in their gut. They talked for hours and yet, it seemed they had gotten no where. Sam had wanted to look to Dean for guidance, being that his brother was the oldest, but it seemed to be the other way around. Dean had no experience in this. He had no idea what to do, what to say, or how to act. Dean needed taught, or he was going to screw it all up.

So, that's what they did. Sam told him about everything he had witnessed at his college parties. The desperation in people's eyes, the trances that everyone lost themselves in. The overdoses and violent seizures. He told him about Adam Kendall. Twenty one year old Adam Kendall who had a future brighter than all others and was studying to be a neurosurgeon. Adam was a shy, kind man that Sam had really grown close too. He was incredibly smart for his age and all of his teachers had the best of expectations for him. He was a perfectionist when it came to his grades. Anything below a ninety percent was practically throwing his entire future away. Adam was stubborn, he didn't like to ask for help. He believed in getting things done yourself.

Sam offered several times to help him, but he was always turned down. So, like everyone else, Adam turned to drugs to help him cope. It was a rabbit hole he had fallen down and was never able to escape. As time went on, his grades dropped and so had his ambition. He wasn't Adam Kendall the prize pupil anymore, it was just Adam Kendall.

Sam told him about that day, the day that haunted him for weeks on end. All of the students had been called to the auditorium and had been informed that Adam had an overdose in his dorm room. He had passed away sometime in the early morning. For a lot of students it had been somewhat of an awakening, especially for Will. He had given everything up, but it wasn't for himself, it was for Jess. Adam had left behind a little sister, and when he had heard the cries that she wept it terrified him. He couldn't bare the thought of doing that to Jess. So, Sam told his brother about Will's dedication to recovery. The ups and downs, the heartache and joy Jess had gone through. But he had done it, despite the hardships and terror he did overcome it. For his sister.

Dean had been silent through his brothers tale. Despite being a hunter not much scared the oldest Winchester, but that did. The way his brother described Adam, the mannerisms, the attitude, the life that drained away, it all reminded him of Meredith. Well, he would be damned to let her end up like him. It wasn't even an option. He used the story as ambition. Ambition and determination to get her better.

Then they researched. They read through countless websites and doctoral pages to find out as much as they could about what they were dealing with. Dean quickly learned that he was going to have to work on his patience. He couldn't jump to conclusions or yell, he couldn't demand answers or force her to get better over night. It was going to be a long and difficult process.

The words they read overwhelmed them, but they read them over and over, not wanting to risk missing anything. They couldn't exactly decide what to do until she woke up. Really, it depended on her. They had...somewhat of a plan, but it wasn't much.
