Sam-24
Meredith-18

"Dean, we're not gonna let you die!" Sam yelled in the tiny motel room.

Dean sighed. "Sam, we've talked about this. If any one tries to break this deal you'll die."

"Well what the hell do you expect us to do Dean? Sit back and watch you live your last year?" Meredith screamed in his face.

Dean looked at them sadly and sighed. "Yeah."

Sam shook his head in anger and Meredith stormed out of the room. She started walking down the road in hopes to clear her head. Ever since Dean had made the deal to bring back Sam, her and her brother never stopped trying to find away to break the deal. When Dean found out he was furious, but she didn't care. She couldn't watch another one of her siblings die. Death was beginning to be a familiar occurrence.

She saw a bench on the side of the road and stopped, pulling out her phone.

"Hello?" Stefan asked.

"Hey, Stefan." Meredith smiled.

"Oh hey, Meredith. How's it going?" He asked.

"Uh... I'm ok. I just needed to hear your voice." She said sadly.

Ever since their recurrence at the grocery store last year, Stefan and Meredith kept in touch. Calling each other at least twice a month. Anytime Meredith was angry or sad she always called him. She told him everything, from their crazy hunts to her brothers deal. She didn't understand why she did but she knew she could trust him. Meredith never told her brothers about him. If Dean knew she was sneaking off to call him he would have blown a gasket. She knew she had feelings for him but she didn't act on it. Their lives were dangerous and she didn't want to risk him getting hurt.

"Are you sure? What's wrong, Mer? You know you can talk to me." He said.

She sighed and leaned back on the bench. "It's Dean. He found out about what me and Sam were up to."

"Oh. Well I'm assuming it wasn't good." Stefan asked her.

"No. No it wasn't." She sighed. "Stefan I don't know what to do. I already lost my dad. I had to watch Sam die. I can't do it again." She said as tears welled up in her eyes.

She laughed and cleared her throat.  "Sorry. Didn't mean to bring the party down."

"Don't apologize, Mer. Not to me." He said. Meredith smiled and played with the string in her jacket.

"When am I going to see you again?" She asked nervously.

"Honestly, I don't know. Hopefully soon." Stefan replied. "I miss you."

She gave a small sad smile. "I miss you too, Stefan."

"Hey, do your brothers know that you've been calling me?" He asked her.

"No not unless you want a death warrant." She laughed.

"Well I mean we are friends. It's not like we're a thing, right?" Stefan said.

She cleared her throat and nodded. "Yeah, totally."

"Unless...maybe you're not telling them for a reason." He said. Meredith could practically see him smirking.

"Smooth Stefan." She chuckled.

"Yeah, well can't blame a guy for trying." He said nonchalantly.

She smiled and rolled her eyes. "I've got to go."

"Ok well think about what I said." Stefan said.

"Oh yes, I'll be sure to sleep on it." She laughed and started walking back to the hotel.

She went to hang up before Stefan spoke up again.

"Hey, Meredith?" He asked.

"Yeah?" She stopped walking.

"About your brother. If there is ever anything you need, I'll always be here to help." He told her

"Thank you, Stefan. And same here." She said genuinely.

They said their goodbyes and Meredith made her way back to the hotel.

She couldn't help but think about what Stefan said. They definitely weren't a thing, but she wished they were. She wished she could have a normal life. A normal family. She wished she didn't have to watch her brother die.
