Maddie got up early. Even though she was not allowed to fight, that wasn't going to hinder her ability to show up and support her friends.
Maddie hadn't got much sleep anyways. She was up almost all night, going over what had happened at the canyon, from the incident with Robby and Hawk, to what Miguel told her.
And as Maddie drove over to the All Valley sports arena, she couldn't get Miguel's words off of her mind.
She had to be completely honest with herself when she thought about Miguel - no more kidding herself. She knew she felt something for the boy.
It was just covered up by her strong feelings for Eli. She knew that she was starting to fall in love with Eli - or Hawk - and wasn't sure how to go about having feelings for two boys.
What also hit her, as she drove up to it, this was the place where Yasmine crashed into the back of Johnny's Pontiac.
Maddie shivered at the memory before parking and getting out of the car. She saw a bunch of people entering the building and quickly spotted her friends.
It was only Miguel and Aisha at the moment, but soon after Maddie came over, more kids started showing up like Bert, and later, her boyfriend.
Maddie greeted Eli with a warm smile and a kiss, which caused his heart to drop. He was being so sweet to her after what he's pulled.
He tried to keep the idea that this was deserved after what she did to make himself feel better, but it wasn't working.
Hawk had smiled back and matched her kiss, pulling her to his side with an arm around her waist as they waited for Johnny to join them.
Miguel was off to the side, practicing his punches, and Maddie could tell that what happened the night before was bothering him.
"Yo, Miguel, calm down, man. Save some for the tournament." Hawk told Miguel. Miguel only spared him a glance, his eyes moving down to Maddie, before continuing.
Hawk raised his eyebrow, before being pulled out of his suspicion by Aisha tapping his shoulder.
"Hey, don't even bother. He's been super aggro ever since the breakup." Aisha said.
Maddie turned her gaze back towards her best friend. She had a feeling that there was more on his mind than that, but she couldn't figure out what it was.
"Where's Sensei? The tournament's gonna start soon." Hawk wondered.
"He'll be here." Aisha tried to reassure him.
"I don't know about that." Bert contested. Maddie raised an eyebrow at the smaller boy.
"What are you talking about?" Aisha questioned.
"I saw him last night at the mini-mall. I was buying a carton of milk... when I heard him in the parking lot, yelling." Bert answered. He then went on to explain that Johnny said we were all going to die.
