That night, Maddie went home. She said goodbye to all her friends, minus him. She didn't care that her parents were waiting for her when she got there.
She didn't care that they berated her for going to the tournament. She was too heartbroken to notice.
When she was driving home, she really realized what she was feeling. Maddie was in pain. More pain than she had ever felt before.
He betrayed her - broke her heart into a million pieces and threw them away. When Maddie connected her eyes with his before she left, she was in tears.
The only reason she avoided any punishment is because her parents saw the look on her face. They knew something was wrong and figured that was enough punishment.
Maddie practically dragged herself upstairs, her legs feeling like 1,000,000 pounds each as she made it to her door.
When she closed it, she sunk down against it, with tears trailing down her face. Maddie was never an audible cryer.
She was silent, and it was better that way. Her parents wouldn't come up to check on her this way, nor did any of her friends hear her when she was leaving.
Maddie felt her phone buzzing in her pocket, and looked to see a phone call from him. This only made her cry harder as she set it down and rested her forehead against her knees.
Displayed on the phone screen was 3 missed calls from Hawk, and 2 from Miguel, along with texts from both the boys.
Her phone started buzzing again and she looked down at it, and saw Moon's name displayed. Maddie contemplated answering it before she decided to do it.
She picked up the phone and put it against her ear, but the voice that greeted her wasn't Moon's. It was Eli's.
"Maddie, listen. I need to talk to you, can you please meet me somew-" Hawk's voice was frantic, but he didn't finish his sentence before the line went dead.
Maddie hung up on him and shut down her phone completely. She knew that he was probably going to try and do the same thing tomorrow when they met for the tournament after party.
Hawk on the other hand had his hands behind his head, walking forwards. He had tears threatening to fall, but he wouldn't let them - not now, at least.
He kicked the wall out of anger. He knew he messed up and it wasn't until he saw the tears running down her face did he realize what he actually just did.
This was his fault, and he knew he needed to fix it. He trailed his hand over his chest on his shirt, it stopping on the exact place where he had her name.
He wanted to show her it that night at the bonfire. That's why he wanted her to stay the night. Hawk was going to tell her how much he loved her, and he blew it.

"So, you might be wondering what a team does after they win the championship. The answer? Victory nachos!" Aisha held her phone up to record a video for her instagram.
