"Gosh. You're such an unpredictable woman. You suddenly showed up, slapped me in the face, kissed me, disappeared, and showed up again. Now, you suddenly take your clothes off and point a gun at me."

"Where are we going, Hayden? We've been driving for a while."
"Whether you know it or not--"
"I don't care," I whined. "I'm hangrrrrrry."
"Kera, you're being childish. I've only been driving for about twenty minutes." Hayden laughed.
"Twenty seems like forever. Leave me alone."
"You are alone. You just--"
He didn't get to finish that sentence because my phone rang. I was tempted to ignore it, but I saw it was Jackson. What did he want? We just left him not too long ago.
"Yeah?"
"Get to the hospital near the plaza," he ordered.
"Why? We're almost out of the city," I argued.
"Turn back around. Lexi's in the hospital."
We were at the hospital in a matter of time. We didn't get out immediately after seeing Asher walking out with his head down. I didn't want to meet with him any time soon. Not because of what happened before he left for California, but for more obvious reasons. Hayden stared after him as he hailed a taxi and left the property.
"Ready?"
"Sure."
"Really?" Hayden sighed. "Could you at least look like you're concerned?"
"Hayden, Lexi is the least of my worries right now!" I exclaimed. "I'm sure she has the drive or had it. Who could possibly know?"
"Jackson or someone he knows probably has it right now. Just look concerned and don't fret about the drive."
Hayden nearly had to drag me out into the hospital because of how slow I was being. I didn't want to go in for multiple reasons. Lexi may assume we weren't on her side anymore. Luca might be there and kill us. If Cameron is anywhere to be seen he'll have something to say. Hayden did kick him pretty hard when we left.
The hospital seemed to be swarming today with doctors and EMT's. How many people have gotten hurt since last night? I don't even want to conjure up an estimate. I spotted Cameron's telltale buzzcut. His son was lying across some seats beside him. It seemed like Luca was nowhere to be found. Was he here or doing something else?
Hayden dragged me past Cameron to the receptionist. She looked up and snapped her gum. The heck...I swear the people here got weirder every time I visited. She looked at us like she had a problem about us being here. I looked away not wanting to seem like I was daring her to say something stupid.
"How can I help you?" she asked.
"I'm here to see my sister, Lexi Daniels," Hayden said.
"Only the immediate family is allowed to see her at the moment. I can always call her husband and see if he'll want you there."
"Aren't I immediate family? I'm her brother."
"...Sir, I've been told to let her family, husband and kids, into her room. You're not her kid and I'm not trying to be fired."
"Just call the room," I snapped.
She looked at me and snapped her gum again. If she did it again I'd wrap it around her face. I swear women like this always have the ugliest attitudes. There was a fine line between respect and tolerance. She was toeing my tolerance.
