We sprinted across the field, I, hot on Nathaniel's heels as he mimicked Tyler's sprints. We saw from afar a small crowd forming a circle around something—no doubt Adrian pounding into Gabriel.

We reached there in no time to see Levi holding—barely—the enraged Adrian back as Gabriel laid on the floor; a bloody mess and groaning in pain. Daphne knelt a couple of steps away sobbing as she watched everything unfold helplessly.

I immediately ran to her, knelt beside her and took her in my arms. "Disperse everyone! There's nothing here to watch!" Nathaniel yelled authoritatively. The crowd scampered away immediately.

"What is wrong with you Adrian?" Nathaniel asked a fuming Adrian. There was something else to him. It wasn't just the anger. A blinding pain was fueling the rage. It couldn't just be anger. Anger, strong of an emotion it was, was no where near pain.

"Why don't you ask your best friend over there?!" He hissed with gritted teeth and pointed his chin in Daphne's direction. Nathaniel turned to us on the floor.

"Daphne?" He called gently. She responded with a sob. I slapped her back comfortingly. And Adrian began to talk.

"Yeah! Go on! Cry harder because I just beat up your fucking boyfriend!" He yelled coldly. It was the first time he was looking at her without that light in his eyes. It was awful.

"WHAT?!" The other three boys yelled together.

"Him?!" Tyler asked, enraged.

"Daphne what the hell?!" Levi shouted, not any less infuriated. Daphne jumped in fright at his tone.

Now I was also enraged. But for a whole different reason.

"What is wrong with you boys?! You're frightening her! Is it a crime to have a boyfriend?" I fizzled.

Cold grey orbs turned to me, "Stay out of this."

"Why should I? She's also my best friend, hello?!" I replied hotly.

"Bye! Now will you shut up?!" He responded and my mouth hanged open. He turned to Daphne and continued.

"And you? How can you be with him after what he did!"

Oh for the love of-

Wait...what?!

"What did he do?" Daphne turned her remorseful eyes to me and I felt betrayed.

"What didn't you tell me Daphne?" I asked again.

"He tried to come onto her in her freshman year, that's what! Might as well remind her that if it wasn't for Nathaniel who stumbled upon them, she'd have been raped that day because it looks like she's forgotten!" Adrian came again. My arms loosened around Daphne and I gave her a disappointed look.
