|Julie|
“You ready to hit the cages Julie?” Luke asked, releasing his hand from my grip and taking his bat bag down from around his shoulder.
“Hell yea, Ill go get us the passes.” I walked over to the small desk, handing the lady $20 and getting two all you can hit passes in return. Every Thursday me, Luke an Benny would come down to the batting cages, because it was so much cheaper on these days.
“Got em Luke.” I said while handing him one. He was in the middle of putting his helmet on, trying to get bit so it wouldn't screw up his hair too much, so being the good friend I am, I crammed the helmet down onto his hair, completely screwing it up in the process.
“Heyyyyy that wasn't nice!” he whisper yelled at me, but I only respond with a laugh.
“Come on you big doof, Lets go hit.” I said while Luke grabbed my helmet and shoved it down on my head. We walked over to the cages and I switched my cage into softball mode, walked in, and gave Luke the ok to start it.
I readied my bat, stepped up to the plate, and waited for the first ball to come out of the machine. It comes racing towards me, and I hit it with all my might. If batting practice wasn't the perfect form of therapy, I'm not sure what it was.
Its just like, you can take your anger out on the ball as it comes to you. You can imagine it as you just pushing all your problems away. Its like in that moment, all that matters is you hitting that ball all other worldly problems don't matter. You just have to worry about yourself and the ball.
And I kept hitting, and every time the machine would stop Id give Luke the sign to start it back up again. I could just imagine that in the ball was all of mine and Benny's problems. Or that in that ball was Calum Hood, and I was finally giving him a piece of my mind.
All in all, I just kept treating it like that ball was my worst enemy. I don't think I've ever hit anything harder than I did today. That's when I noticed that I had given Luke the sign to stat the machine again, but he had stopped
“Julie, that's enough!” He yelled at me. I thought about what he said and i noticed, how many ball had i hit. It was definitely more than usual, but how many?
“What? Luke?” All of this had totally gotten away from me, I had hardly noticed that Luke was even here anymore.
That's when I felt it. This pain in my hands and my wrists that I had never felt before in my entire life. My hands hurt so bad that they were numb, and I felt like I couldn't even hold my bat anymore. I could hear my bat fall to the floor, but I didn't feel it leave my hands.
“Julie! Are you okay?!,” Luke yelled over the sound of bats hitting balls.
“Oh shit you're not okay.”
