After the meeting was over, Amari called out some more orders and made sure that despite what had gone on, everyone was still on the right track and doing their job. The other guys seemed to have no problem with him being their new leader. In that, you could see the loyalty and respect they had for Rocky. He had made Amari his partner, his equal, so everyone knew he had to be fit for the job and that was that.

Amari, X and I stayed in the lounge even after everyone had cleared out. The two of them were discussing arrival dates of incoming shipments and something about some guys who have been coming into our territory. Amari had told me about them a few weeks earlier, but I hadn't paid it any attention. I guess it was really being a serious issue now.

When the conversation was finished, they exchanged a quick handshake and Amari came over to get me.

"You ready to go ma?" He asked

I nodded. I needed a hot shower and some serious relaxing. Now that we had cleared the air and everything was running smoothly I was hoping for some down time. I hadn't really had time to take in how much my life had changed in a matter of weeks. I wasn't even able to grieve the lost of my parents because I was caught up in helping Amari get revenge.

We got in the car and drove back to Amari's place. Amari's mother had already left for her night shift. I hadn't seen her much since I had been staying here. When we were at the house, she was at work, and when we were out handling business, she was home. I was grateful that Ms. Shirley allowed me to stay in her home. Amari didn't tell her the real reason I was here, but he said he gave her a good enough excuse to prevent any questions we couldn't answer.

Amari yawned while plopping onto the sofa.

"I think I need a nap." He said.

"You need to fix those braids." I said clowning him.

He ran his hand over his head.

"Damn, Yvette leave me hair alone unless you can fix it." He pouted.

"I can." I said with a smirk.

Growing up most of my cousins were boys, and all of their sisters knew how to braid and they taught me as well. If any sisters weren't avaliable for braid ups, my cousins would come to me. I usually charged a fee of a candy bar or two alongside.

"Well then help me fix this mess!" Amari laughed.

I sat on the sofa and he moved down, sitting between my legs. We worked together to take out his current braids. Once they were all out, Amari went to the bathroom to wash his hair before returning for me to braid. His soft, fluffy hair smelled so good I had to keep myself in check so I didn't get distracted. Almost two hours later, Amari's hair was neatly in cornrows and he was looking a lot better.

"This is nice. Thanks ma." He said looking into the mirror.

"No problem." I said as I flopped onto his bed.

It was shortly after 1AM, but I didn't feel the slightest bit tired. Amari rolled over beside me and pulled me closer to me. His deep brown eyes were locked on mine, but he didn't say a word.

"Can I help you?" I said, wondering why he was watching me so hard.

"You know, in all this madness, there's something I've been meaning to ask you."

"What's that?" I asked.

"You really been down for me shawty, from the time I met you. I want you to be mine, officially." Amari said.
