June 29th, 2017, I was defending my doctoral thesis at Northwestern University today. If all goes well, I will be Dr. Regan June Callahan, PsyD, by the end of August. My dream was within reach.

It was a Thursday, and I was defending my thesis at 3:30pm. My mom, and Nick flew in to be there. I was hopeful that Adam and Kevin would be able to sneak away early to watch me too, but I wasn't going to hold them to it. I know how the job is, and how Hank is.

I picked my mom and Nick up at the airport earlier that morning, and took them back to my place. "How was the flight?" I asked.

Nick let my mom answer, "it was fine honey! O'Hare is nice!"

"Yeah.. it's alright!" I winked. "Just happy you guys are here!" I walked over and hugged them.

"Mom you can sleep with me. Nick, do you mind sleeping on the couch?"

"Not at all Callahan, happy you invited me!"

"You're my best friend, Nick! Of course!"

It was now 3:00, soon time to start my defense. I'd been on campus for 30 minutes; my mom and Nick went to explore a little bit. Before today, I'd been on campus probably about five times, mostly to gather things and meet my advisors, so it is was always nice coming back.

As I prepared to walk my mom and Nick into the Social Sciences building, I heard someone calling my name, so I turned to look. Walking toward the building, in dress pants and polo's were Kevin and Adam.

"Adam!" I yelled to him as I ran and jumped into his arms, careful not to wrinkle my dress pants.

"Hi sweets!" He replied as he wrapped me in his embrace.

"Hi Kevin!" I waved as Adam let me down.

"Cmon guys!" I led them toward Nick and my mom. "This is mom, Lynn. Mom this is Kevin, and Adam."

"Nice to meet you both!" She replied. "Oh he's cute Regan," she whispered to me me about Adam. I blushed.

"And you all know each other," I gestured to Nick and the guys.

I walked towards the theater in the building and told them to sit in the back, and to not make a sound. I always already nervous as fuck; my mom, best friends, and man I loved would just make it worse. Yes, I said it. I'm in love with Adam Ruzek.. shocking I know. I was there before the board members which was good, you don't want to keep them waiting.

After two hours, I was done. I defended my thesis, and personally think I crushed it. But it was in their hands now: Director of the Psychology Department at Northwestern, Dr. Jenson Webster; Department Head for the Clinical Psychology program, Dr. Beverly Fitz; Head of the Forensic's Department, Dr. Michelle Tovo; Director of Admissions for the American Association of Certified Psychologists, Dr. Timothy Greenblat; Director of National Certification Board Exams for Psychologists, Dr. Leshaun Turner; and President of Northwestern University, Dr. Tanya Maxwell. They were extremely smart and powerful people, my future as a doctor was in their hands, and it was slightly terrifying.

"You did amazing Regan!" Nick exclaimed when I met them in the hallway.

"Thank you! Could you tell I was trying not to shit myself?" I laughed.

"Not at all, you did great!" Kevin added.

"Well good, thank you Kev!"

"Amazing Reg!" Adam said as he kissed me on the cheek. I blushed, and my mom smiled.

"I'm so proud of you pumpkin!" My mom said with tears in her eyes. I hugged her tightly.

"Now we wait?" Adam asked.

"Now we wait.." I replied.
