The Long Way Back

Three long months after Adam was shot in the back on our wedding day, he walked back into the station. Well I had to help him up the steps, but he did it nonetheless.

I had only allowed him to take the prescription pain killers for the first three weeks after he was discharged; didn't want him to become hooked on them.. and he told me to do it that way. Advil didn't nearly do as much, but he pushed through the pain; he claimed it only lasted for a month anyway.

The first day back at the station for him, he leaned on me as we walked up the front steps and into the lobby. Trudy looked up and started a clap, which turned into everyone on the first floor doing the same. He waved, and we both smiled. I helped him up the next set of steps, (he was just extremely weak from having a collapsed lung, and heart surgery) and toward the Intelligence Unit. He took a deep breath at the top, and walked to his desk.

"You look good Ruz.." Jay smiled as he gently placed a hand on Adam's shoulder.

"Hey, thanks man! I have a good doctor," Adam winked at me.

"Funny.." I rolled my eyes back.

"Welcome back man!" Kev said as he gingerly hugged him.

"Ehh-hem! Desk duty only!" I scowled.

"Yes boss.." Adam remarked. I flipped him off.

I looked back toward's Hank office and he was talking to someone, someone I didn't recognize. "Psst! Hailey! Who is that?" I asked.

"Oh, new recruit, with Adam out, and you not yet a field agent, we need the help," she replied.

"Hmmm." I furrowed my brow at the new chick, though she couldn't see.

I had decided while helping Adam at home, that I would take my firearms exam and mental health screening through the bureau, to become a field agent. Literally it would just give me the ability to use/carry a gun and arrest suspects.

"She's not that pretty.." Kevin said as he walked by, causing me to laugh.

Hank came out of his office, "guys.. hey."

Everyone stopped to look at him. "This is our new team member, Ally Parkison." He said. I rolled my eyes subtly.

He was right, she wasn't that pretty. Brown hair, green eyes, no glasses, big nose..

"Hi everyone!" She waved like a fucking idiot. "I'm really excited to be here. And I can't wait to get started."

"Temporarily," I mumbled just loud enough for Kevin to hear. He smirked at me. I winked back.

"She'll be joining us until we get Ruzek back full time," Hank finished and walked her to her new desk. Across from Adam. Hell fucking no.

I cleared my throat, "way more room over hear Hank.." I pointed to an empty desk on the other side of the room, where Adam's back would be back to her.

"Good call.. Callahan.. oops, Ruzek, sorry,"
Hank winked. The new girl furrowed her brow while I smirked at her.

I got up and walked over to Adam's desk, "how you feeling babe?" I asked him loudly.

"Better sweetheart!" He said. "Feels good to be out of the house, but I miss Isabelle."

"I know sweets. Going from spending everyday with your daughter to going back to work.. sucks! Trust me!" I laughed.

"You handled it way better than I did!" He laughed back. I saw new the girl stand up from the corner of my eye, as I playing with Adam's hair.

"You two married?" She asked.

"Yes. For a few months.." I replied.

"Cute!"

I furrowed by brow at her, "are you seeing anyone?"

"Me? No.. I'm not really into relationships." She winked at Kevin and Adam before she walked away. Oh FUCK NO.

I followed her into the break room, and shut the door, "Ally right?" I said with a bogus smile.

"Yeah!" She returned the fakeness.

"Well Ally.. if I EVER catch you making eyes like that at my HUSBAND again, you and I are not going to get along... clear?"

She didn't answer.

"CLEAR?!" I barked at her.

"Crystal." She replied with a smartass smile. It took everything I had not to smack the bitch. I left the room and let the door slam as I sat back down at my desk.

"Babe?!" Adam said as he rolled his chair over.

"She's a whore." I stated plainly.

"What.. how..?" He was confused.

"She looked at you and Kev the same way I used to look at you guys.. when I wanted nothing more than to just fuck your brains out. Before I loved you. She better not look at you like than again.." I huffed.

"I love you babe." He said as he leaned up to kiss me, just as Ally walked by.
