Dawn breaks and I sit helplessly as it drags me into the first day of pain.

But the animal need to survive numbs me for the moment.

We need food and I have to hunt.

Alone.

***

I made my mother sleep an hour ago. She needs it.

I grab my game bag and head out.

***

The woods.

It feels like the birds inside call me and the woods open up so I could reach its safety.

Once I enter, I go to the log hat safeguards our bows. I reach for the waterproof bundle, inside, wrapped carefully sits her bow along with mine.

I sit down, breathing hard, overwhelmed by the events that took place in the past twenty-four hours. I can't believe that only yesterday Catnip and I were eating blueberries and joking around. It feels like several years had passed since then.

My heart beats painfully in my chest. My breaths shallow.

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. It is an old piece of advice my father used to give me in times that I panicked. It helped me calm down. Clear my head.

In my stillness, I notice a squirrel scurrying up a tree. Instinct takes over and I shoot.

I reach for fallen being.

A smile creeps up my face. After all these years, my aim is still nothing compared to Katniss's.

My arrow is lodged in the poor thing's belly, rupturing its body, thus creating a mess of blood and internal organs.

But Katniss always has a clean kill. Her arrows piercing the target in its eye, bringing no damage to its body.

I smile even more. Katniss has a deadly aim.
