It is Monday morning, Yeona and Taemin stand outside the company building, contracts in one hand, and their fingers intertwined in the other. They are as prepared as they'll ever be, despite the circumstances, Yeona managed to calm her tears enough to leave her room for the first time since Saturday morning.
"We've got this, Yeona." Taemin says
"I hope so." she replies
They walk inside and meet a handful of other trainees who are also waiting to start their day, and Yeona tries not to notice how much more put-together the other girls look in comparison to her. They are instructed to wait for the other trainees to arrive, before they are taken to one of the dance practice rooms.
Yeona and Taemin sit together on the floor, as an instructor who introduces herself as Jaeyeon walks in and begins to explain the process of idol traineeship. She explains their diet, their requirements for public behaviour, and the expectations of the company to be the best representative possible.
"You'll be coming into my office in turn, we need to weigh and measure you." Jaeyeon says
Yeona nods, sickly grateful for her lack of appetite, knowing that she hasn't eaten in days, she hopes that she is on the right track to where they will want her to be.
"Lee Taemin, you're up." Jaeyeon says
Taemin squeezes Yeona's hand before letting go and following Jaeyeon into her office adjacent to the practice room. The other trainees talk amongst themselves, and Yeona is surprised when they try to include her in the conversation.
"Hi, I'm Park Chanyeol!" he introduces himself
"Jung Yeona." she replies
She inspects the man in front of him, his eyes wide and deep brown, he has soft features and a handsome face, she's unsurprised someone like him has been accepted into traineeship. He's cute, she guesses, but her heart aches at the thought of anyone being cute except for the man whose heart she has broken.
Chanyeol gestures for Yeona to move closer to the group, so she moves to sit beside him. She feels uncomfortable under his gaze, she can feel his eyes piercing into her own.
"I'm fucking terrified, I barely know how to dance at all." Chanyeol says
"Oh, I'm the opposite, dancing is the only thing I know how to do." Yeona replies
Chanyeol laughs, and Yeona smiles at him, just as Taemin enters the room alongside Jaeyeon. He sits down beside Yeona and takes her hand in his again, instantly wary of her receiving the attention that she is, from a man he doesn't know.
"Taemin, and you?" he asks pointedly
"Chanyeol." he replies
"Jung Yeona, you're up." Jaeyeon interrupts
Yeona stands and nods goodbye to the two men she sat with, and she follows Jaeyeon into her office. She shuts the door behind her and lifts her gaze to meet that of her instructor's.
"Take off your shoes, please." Jaeyeon asks
Yeona removes her shoes and then is gestured to stand on the set of scales by the wall. She looks down at the numbers at her feet, noticing again that they have dropped since she last checked. Jaeyeon takes note of her weight, before asking her to stand against the wall so that she can measure her height.
Once she has taken both numbers down, she sits at her desk and puts them into the spreadsheet she has open on her laptop. Yeona stands patiently, awaiting feedback, wondering how much harder she needs to work to be where they want her to be.
