He watched her from across the room. Sure, there were people dancing in between them, but he could still see her plain as day. The candles illuminated the room so that everyone had a particular glow about them, none more prominently beautiful than Cordelia.
Every so often, she would look up toward him and they would catch each other's eye. It made her heart skip a beat every time she caught him looking back at her. She was supposed to be in a conversation with the group of women she was standing with, but she can only tolerate gossip for so long, and who could blame her for getting distracted when he was looking at her like that.
Elijah was similarly supposed to be involved in the conversation he was having with the wealthy landlord. However, this man was far too fond of himself and Eliah's participation wasn't really necessary for him to continue talking about his accomplishments. So he continued to watch her. And was perfectly content doing so until he heard the voice of his brother.
"Come now Count de Larson, there are plenty of lovely people at this party, why don't you go entertain one of them while we talk with our brother, here." Klaus compelled the man to go away. "I'll love Delia forever for teaching us that trick." He said as he turned back towards Elijah, as well as Kol who was with him.
"Looks like you won't be the only one." Kol stated as he followed Elijah's gaze towards the witch who had brought them to court.
"I can see that." Klaus said, clapping his arms around his brother's shoulders. Elijah rolled his eyes. Knowing the teasing that was about to ensue. "So tell me brother, is she any good?"
"Niklaus, as always, your manners are impeccable." Elijah sighed as he took a sip from his wine.
"Ah come on! We used to share everything." Klaus said, genuinely enjoying himself.
"Exactly!" Kol added, grabbing his own cup of wine from a passing servant. "What's the harm in sharing, brother?
"Even if we had done anything, I'd have to tell you that it's none of your business." Elijah responded, failing to hide the smile on his face.
"My, my..." Kol said as he looked at his sibling in mock awe, "I don't believe I've ever seen you quite this smitten."

Across the ballroom Cordelia was having a similar conversation with Rebekah.
"That is none of your business." She said quietly as she smiled into her goblet.
"Oh come on!" Rebekah whispered. "You are both far too taken with each other to not have done anything. And I never really took you for one of remarkable self control."
Cordelia chuckled at that last part, knowing full well that her reputation at court was a bit of a daredevil. She smiled at Rebekah, feeling for one of the first times in her life; truly and completely happy. Little did she know that this feeling was about to be interrupted.
"Excuse me, Lady Cordelia." She heard someone say on her right. She turned and saw one of the wealthy landowners who came to visit court standing there. "Lord Carmelo. Pleasure to meet you."
She extended her hand and curtsied as he kissed it, and bowed. She was well accustomed to this formality by this point in her life, but that didn't make it any less ridiculous. She internally rolled her eyes as she anticipated his next words and began to think of a polite decline.
"Perhaps my lady would like to dance?" He asked. She was very much correct in her guess.
"Thank you, my Lord, but no thank you." She responded politely. "I'm not much of a dancer."
"Well, that's a shame." He said, "But no matter, I suppose I may just stay here and request your conversation."
Cordelia was slightly put off by this. Most men would have gathered the hint by now and politely excused themselves.
"How sweet." She said in a rather forced polite tone. "But I'm afraid I had a rather long day and was thinking of turning in. Excuse me." She set her cup down and attempted to walk away, but he grabbed her arm.
—-
On the other side of the room, Elijah was practically fuming. The only reason he had not crossed the ballroom and thrown the Lord to the floor was due to both of his brother's firm grip on either arm.
"Breath, Elijah." Klaus whispered.
"It's not as if you can kill him in the middle of a crowded ballroom. Hate to say it, but people might notice." Kol whispered to him as well.
"Nonsense, I would simply break his wrist." Elijah muttered as he attempted to release himself from their grasp. They held on tighter.
"Practice control." Klaus muttered back.
"Look who's talking." Kol chuckled.
"Not. Helping." Klaus said as Elijah once again pulled on their grasp.

Back across the room Cordelia was, at this point, rather ticked off.
"Excuse me, but what are you doing?" She asked in a lower, more threatening, tone.
"I believe I politely requested a conversation with you." He said.
"And I believe I politely declined." She said back, "Not used to hearing the word 'no' are you?"
"I think you will usually find that I get what I ask for." He responded stepping closer to her. Far too close for her comfort.
"Well I'm afraid you are going to be severely disappointed with me." She said venomously. She silently performed an incantation and her skin proceeded to burn him.
"Agh!" He exclaimed and jumped back. However, when he stepped back, his foot caught against a table and he tumbled backward onto it, breaking it in many pieces and landing on the floor. He looked up at her in horror.
"I'm afraid you have had a bit too much to drink sir." She laughed out loud enough for those who had looked toward the commotion to hear. And with that, she turned around and quickly walked out of the ballroom.
—-
She found herself in an abandoned corridor as she began to calm herself down from her previous fury. She took a couple of deep breaths and was thinking of turning around to find her room when she felt a presence behind her.
Smiling, she said, "Hasn't anyone ever told you it's not polite to sneak up on a lady?"
"My mistake," Elijah said, smiling as well, "I thought you hated such formalities."
She turned around and locked eyes with him. "You know me too well." She shook her head laughing and reached towards him.
As if he understood her perfectly, he reached towards her at the same time. They met in the middle, and their lips touched. One would think the kiss would start slow and then escalate, but with all of the tension between them from the previous room, they were passionately entwined with one another the second their lips met.
Elijah gripped her waist as if his life depended on it. She, just as forcibly, was pulling down on the back of his neck to be closer to him. He backed her against the stone wall and she felt the cool rock against the parts of her skin that were not covered by her dress.
One of his hands was against the wall, near her head, the other snaked around to her back. They were kissing each other with an intense amount of passion neither had felt before. Her hands began to roam his chest, moving towards the bottom of his shirt. Before she could think about what she was doing, her hands were under it, slightly pulling it upwards. Eliciting a moan from him.
Similarly, his hands had found the strappings of the back of her dress. Being able to feel the corset underneath, he, without thinking, began to pull apart the buttons holding the dress together.
They both stopped and gasped for air.
"Are you sure?" He said, refusing to rush her.
"Dead sure." She responded, her hand finding his jawline and she stood on her toes to reach him again.
He smiled into the kiss and held onto her waist to pull her up off the ground, speeding back to his room.

Back in the ballroom, Rebekah is standing next to two of her brothers.
"I'm happy for them." She said as they watched the dancers.
"Well, it's about time Elijah had some better luck with women." Klaus laughed, causing his siblings to do the same.

(Hey guys! Hope you liked the flashback chapter. These are probably the most fun to write lol)
