CASTYR'S POV
Kilo stands in front of me as Miren reads the relayed message. He pleads with her with his eyes; his hand is ready to defend us. We hold our breaths to see how Miren reacts.
"Hand over the angel and his star or die. Wow! So cheesy. Who wrote this?" Miren turns to look at us. "Don't worry. Devyn entrusted you to me. Nothing will happen to you if I have any say."
Kilo nods in thanks. I let out a small sigh of relief.
"Now, what to do? How do we survive seven demon ships?" Miren wonders.
Kilo furrows his brows in concentration. A ding from the control center makes him look up.
"Here comes another one," Miren sighs as she opens the message. "You have one minute," she reads. "Great. Flis! Open fire!"
"Request affirmed," the Flisea answers, and the ship's guns start firing at the demon ships. Most of the rays and bullets bounce off the ships' shields, flying off into space or being destroyed by the shield.
"Why don't they fire?" Miren mumbles as she watches the demon ships evade fire from the Flisea.
"We're more valuable to them alive," Kilo answers.
"How did they even find you guys?"
"We might have been spotted on Borum."
"Ah."
"They'll most likely try to board when we run out of weapons. They can't transfer safely in the middle of our fire."
"So we're sitting ducks."
Kilo nods.
My heart drops as I realize there is not much we can do. I clench my fist and rack my brain for an option. Kilo grasps the back of the chair and closes his eyes to think.
The Flisea eventually warns us that the weapons are running low. Miren lowers her head as her ship addresses her. Once the report on the weapons supply has concluded, she looks out the window at the seven ships.
The ships close in as the weapons run out.
"Here we go," Miren says under her breath.
Kilo draws his sword.
"Woah! Where did that come from?!"
Kilo just looks at the startled human and turns to me. He gets me up and places me behind him as three figures appear in front of us through a forced inter-craft transferral.
The demons are extremely tall and surprisingly beautiful. Their skin is pale, and their eyes are piercing. Each demon brandishes his own weapon.
Kilo raises his sword as the center demon steps forward.
"If you come peacefully, you will live," the demon proposes.
Miren draws her pistol and shoots the demon in response. "Go to Hell."
"Just came from there," the demon growls in a sarcastic retort as he pulls the bullet out of his body. The flesh heals, and he wipes off the blood. He lets out a low growl in annoyance and advances.
Kilo runs to him. The demon whips out a sword and clashes it into Kilo's blade. The demon snarls before kicking Kilo in the chest. The young angel regains his balance as a demon walks towards me.
"Hey, little one!"
I turn to see Miren toss a gun in the air. I catch the gun and shoot at the demon. He manages to dodge the bullet before Kilo steps between us. Kilo slices his sword across the demon's chest and turns to look at me.
"Are you alright?"
I nod with wide eyes. As cool as Kilo just was, I have focus on the fight.
The demon growls in pain, but the wound quickly heals. Kilo evades his strike and jumps behind the demon. In one quick motion, Kilo decapitates the demon. To our horror, four more demons transfer as the body drops to the floor.
"So you have to chop their heads off? That's a bother," Miren says as she shoots at the new demons.
I join Miren in wounding the demons as Kilo takes on the middle demon. I hear Kilo cry out as the experienced demon runs his sword across the angel's side.
"Kilo!" I shoot at the demon as another reaches me. He rips the gun from my hands and grabs my hair. The demon pulls my head back and strikes me in the stomach. Why am I so weak? I cannot even fight to save myself.
I watch as the middle demon slices Kilo's leg as my angel tries to reach me. Kilo is forced to his knees and subdued. The demon places his sword against Kilo's throat as another demon captures Miren.
A rage builds up inside of me as I glare at the demons, a bright shine suddenly covering me. My body heats up as I meet Kilo's eyes.
"Let him go!" I yell as the heat inside me grows. The burning runs up through my throat. I feel as if my body is going to explode. I cry out as a blinding wave of light pulses from me. Everything turns white, and I close my eyes.
The hands grappling me disappear, and I fall to my knees. I feel arms wrap around me and look up to see purple eyes. My body becomes weak from the sudden use of energy, and my vision darkens.
