KILO'S POV
Castyr watches the clouds pass and the city come into view with wide eyes. Can he be any cuter?
Devyn lands the craft smoothly in docking bay H-23 located in the private sector.
"Devyn, would you like me to enter lock mode?" A voice sounds as Devyn opens the door.
"Sure," Devyn answers nonchalantly.
"Who was that?" Castyr asks.
"That's Atlas. My ship."
"She can talk?"
Devyn nods.
"But she didn't say anything the whole flight."
"She was figuring you guys out. She likes you," Devyn smiles. "Bye, Atlas!" Devyn calls as he exits the craft.
I pull the coat hood over my head and make sure Castyr has his on before we exit the ship. The door to Atlas shuts, and the craft powers down only to be unlocked with the detection of Devyn's biometric stats.
Borum is more technologically advanced than Megran but is still quite behind compared to Heaven and rank 1 planets.
We follow Devyn out of the docking bay and into the capital city of Borum. Various species and beings bustle about the city. I keep Castyr close to me as we enter a club. Devyn leads us past the flashing lights and dancers to the back of the building.
"Mr. Vaumyr," a guard bows to Devyn.
"I need to meet with Miren," Devyn tells the man.
"Master Miren is meeting with a client."
Devyn lifts a brow. He does not seem to particularly like the guard's response. Devyn shifts his weight and places his hands in his pockets. I watch as the soft Devyn transitions into a man with presence. Devyn cocks his head to the side and coolly says, "Tell Miren I am here."
"Yes, sir," the man bows and enters the room in front of us. Not long after, the guard exits escorting a man holding a brief case. "Mr. Vaumyr," the guard holds the door open as the man walks past.
We follow Devyn into the room, and the guard closes the door.
"Devyn!" A beautiful woman stands from a chair positioned at the head of a low table. "It's so good to see you!" The woman walks over to Devyn and embraces him.
"Hi, Miren." Devyn accepts her embrace.
"What brings you here?" The woman asks as she returns to her seat. "Please sit," Miren gestures to empty chairs around the table.
"I need a favor," Devyn says after sitting in a chair next to the woman; Castyr sits next to Devyn.
"Oh?"
I stand behind Castyr's chair as the woman looks at us.
"For those two?" She points at Castyr and me.
Devyn nods. "They need to get to Earth as soon as possible."
"And in exchange?"
"I'll supply your men with weapons for three months," Devyn offers.
The woman taps the arms of her chair in thought. "Deal. I assume they are classified?"
Devyn nods. "No questions. Make sure they arrive safely."
"Don't worry, I'll take them in the Flisea. I have business on Earth with Wil anyway."
Devyn flinches at the mention of Wil. Miren notices.
"He's looking for you again."
"Don't tell him I was here," Devyn clasps his hands anxiously.
"Be careful. He's determined to have you this time. He won't let you go easily again. He sent another request for my blessing. I burned it."
"Thank you."
"Perverted bastard," the woman scowls.
Castyr reaches over and pats Devyn's arm. Devyn looks at Castyr and smiles sweetly.
"Why don't you take your guests and get refreshed? I'll meet you at the front in an hour," Miren tells Devyn.
We watch Miren stand and exit the room. Devyn sighs and looks up at me. He reads my stern expression.
"Don't worry. Miren needs weapons. She'll do anything to get you to Earth," Devyn assures me.
"So what kind of business do you run?" Castyr asks to get Devyn's mind off this "Wil."
"My company manufactures and sells weapons to different militaries. We have contracts with multiple defense systems around the galaxy," Devyn explains.
"So what is this place?" Castyr gestures to the club.
"This is a branch of the club Viant. The head club is on Earth. Miren manages this branch. The owner of Viant is...Wil."
"Oh," Castyr says quietly.
"Is there somewhere we can get warmer clothes? Earth will be in its winter state," I break the awkward and tense silence.
"Yes." Devyn stands to his feet. "Follow me."
After Castyr has changed into warmer clothes, I find an insulated coat to put over my black soldier gear. We grab some food and meet Devyn at the front of the club.
"Here." Devyn hands us black face masks to cover our mouth and nose.
"Thank you." I loop the mask over my ears and readjust my hood.
Castyr looks up at me with his smiling eyes. I tug on his hood to make sure it is covering as much of his face as it can.
Devyn spots Miren and waves her over. The woman has changed out of her red dress and into a pair of black cargo pants and a black shirt. Holsters are strapped around her thighs and over her shoulders under a green jacket.
"Everyone ready?" Miren greets.
Devyn turns to face me. "I'll see you off?"
I nod.
"Okay. Follow me." Miren leads us out of the club and into the busy city.
Night has come by the time we enter the city. Bright, colorful lights decorate the endless buildings, illuminating the entire city. Miren takes us to the edge of a small space station. She suddenly stops in her tracks and holds up a fist. Her hand slowly moves to a gun. Miren draws her gun as we are surrounded by men with shaved heads.
"Dendrum," Miren growls as she looks around.
I have heard of dendrum. They are notorious smugglers and murderers. They will capture any living being and sell them as slaves and sacrifices. Demons are their most common customers.
I reach my hand to my back to draw my sword, but a firm grasp startles me. I turn to see Devyn holding my wrist. He shakes his head.
"They'll know you're an angel," he says quietly. "I know you can't teleport yet, but you're fast. So grab Castyr and Miren and get them out of here when I give you a signal."
I nod. Devyn lets go of my wrist and slowly walks in front of us.
"Can I help you gents?" Devyn calls to the surrounding men. I admire this kid's courage. He's got guts.
"Do you know who you're dealing with?" Miren warns the smugglers. The dendrum ignore Miren and take a step forward.
A dendrum looks at Devyn and sizes him up. He pulls a stun gun and aims at Devyn.
"I'll take that as a no!" Devyn whips out a gun and shoots the dendrum. "Now, Kilo!" Devyn shouts as he dodges a stun ray.
I race to Castyr and grab him by his waist. I then grab Miren's wrist and drag them away from the fight. Miren protests, but I get her out of danger as Devyn asked of me.
I look back as we round a corner. Devyn is kneeling on one knee, limply holding his gun. He is shot in the chest with a stun ray and collapses to the ground unconscious. A man drags Devyn away as we run out of sight of the dendrum.
I owe you, Devyn.
