Meredith woke up early, very thirsty, and looked to Derek, who was sleeping restfully on the couch. She looked at him and smiled. "Der?" She asked quietly. "D-Der." SHe said louder. He awoke and looked at Meredith. "What do you need? Are you in pain?" He asked quickly. "No...can I...have some...water?" Meredith asked. Derek nodded and poured some water into a cup. He put a straw in and held it to her lips. Meredith sipped on the water graciously until Derek pulled it away. He placed it on the side table and stroked Merediths hair out of her face. "We still have a little while until rounds. Do you want to go back to sleep?" Derek asked softly. Meredith nodded. She scooted over as much as she could to the edge and patted the bed. "Mer, I don't want to hurt you." Derek said hesitantly. "Please?" Meredith asked. "Mer-." He started. "Derek...please? I...want you...to lay...with me." Meredith begged. Derek smiled and gave in. He really did want to lay with her, but he didn't want to hurt her.

He got into bed beside her and carefully wrapped his arms around her torso. Meredith snuggled into his embrace, she missed his arms when he was in DC. "I missed you." Meredith said. "You don't have to miss me ever again. I'm staying here from now on." Derek reassured. Meredith nodded and held his arm across her waist tightly and fell asleep. Derek on the other hand, didn't go back to sleep. Instead, he just savored the moment of holding his wife in his arms. He made a big mistake going to DC in the first place, and he missed his family.

Bailey and Merediths doctors came into the room to do when rounds and stopped when they saw Meredith and Derek wrapped in each other's arms. "Should we wake them up?" An intern asked. "No. Grey woke up early I think this morning. Let em sleep." Bailey said. "We will do rounds later." She added. The interns scurried away, leaving Richard, Owen, Teddy, Jackson, and Cristina. "If I saw that 10 years ago I would have kicked his ass out of the bed quicker than he would be able to say a word." Bailey said with a laugh. "They've been togetehr for 10 years?" Teddy asked. "Off and on. On for the last...5? 6 years?" Bailey asked looking at Cristina, who nodded. They all parted ways and then attended to their other patients until Meredith woke up.

"Mer." Derek whispered. Derek woke up when doctors gathered into her room for late rounds. "Mmm what?" Meredith asked. "Rounds." He whispered. "Ugh." Meredith whined as she struggled to position herself on her back. Derek helped her and kissed her forehead. "How you feeling Grey?" Richard asked. "Tired... Sore....Annoyed." Meredith grumbled. Richard chuckled and stepped back. "Grey, we're gonna Get you sitting up in your own today." Teddy said. "Great." Meredith said sarcastically. Teddy smirked and let the other attendings do their jobs.

When everything went well and they all left, Derek looked at Meredith with an amused smile. "Someone's moody today." He said with a laugh. "Shut up." Meredith said as she tried to hit him with a pillow, but couldn't due to the pain in her chest and broken arm. He kissed her forehead gently and sat down on the bed next to her. "Guess what?" He asked. "What?" Meredith asked. "I resigned yesterday. I'm free." Derek said with a big smile. "You...did?" Meredith asked. "I did. I'm gonna ask Owen for an attending position here." Derek said happily. "Okay. Are you...sure?" Meredith asked hesitantly. "I'm sure." Derek confirmed. Meredith nodded. "I'm gonna...try to sleep....before...stand up." Meredith said, wheezing a little bit from all the words. Derek nodded and pecked her lips one last time before sitting down in her room again.

A few hours passed before Teddy came in the room. Derek got up and pressed a kiss to Merediths forehead. "Wake up Mer." He whispered. She stirred and opened her eyes slowly. "Hi." She whispered. Derek smiled at how adorable she is. "Hey Grey." Teddy said. "Sit...up?" Meredith asked. "Yeah." Teddy said as she came over to Merediths side. "Okah. So I'm gonna support your elbow and you're going to use your good arm to pull yourself up. Then, if you can, your going to swing your legs over the bed. Then Derek and I will step away and you're gonna sit up by yourself unsupported for a few minutes. Got It?" Teddy asked. Meredith nodded and grabbed the side of her bed. She pulled herself up with a grimace. Teddy supported her right elbow, while Derek placed a supportive hand on her back. She then slowly moved her legs over the back with a whimper of pain. She did it. Teddy let go and Derek stepped back for a minute while Meredith breathed heavy. Derek pressed the pillow against her chest and Teddy put an oxygen mask on, which helped a lot even though Meredith wouldn't admit it.

"You did good Grey." Teddy praised. Meredith just nodded, unable to say anything.

After another minute or two, Teddy and Derek helped Meredith back into bed. "I'm gonna give you another dose of pain meds." Teddy said as she pushed it into her iv. "Thank you." Meredith said sleepily. Teddy nodded and exited the room. "I'm proud of you." Derek said gently. Meredith nodded. "I gotta go sign a few papers for my contract Hunt gave me. You gonna be okay here?" Derek asked, squeezing her hand. Meredith nodded. Derek turned to leave when Meredith grabbed his shirt. "Wait." She said. Meredith pulled him down and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. "Now you can go." Meredith said with a sleepy smile. Derek smiled dreamily and left the room, leaving Meredith to fall asleep.

Derek went to the conference room and met hunt. "Shepherd!" He exclaimed. "Here." Owen said as he handed him papers. "Sign these and you'll be an attending here again." He said. Derek nodded and sloppily wrote his signature on the papers. "Done." Derek said. Owen held his hand out for a handshake and Derek took it. "Welcome back." He said. Derek smiled and nodded.
