When Meredith and Derek got to work one day, they had a surgery planned to do togetehr. It was kind of their thing. Instead of going on romantic dinner dates, they had dates over surgeries. It was their thing.

Thatcher Grey and his daughter, molly, his granddaughter Laura, and his daughters husband Eric heard about Merediths accident a while ago. Richard said something about it at an AA meeting they both attend, and thatcher soon put the dots together about it being Meredith.

One day, they all decided to make the trip to the hospital and visit her. Thatcher wasn't quite sure he agreed to go when molly asked him, but he did.

They arrived at the hospital and entered the building, walking straight into a short doctor. "Mr Grey." Dr Bailey said in surprise. "Dr Bailey, right?" Thatcher asked. "Yes. How are you doing? Molly, right?" Bailey asked as she shook hands with both of them and Eric. "Good, good. We uh just wanted to check on m-Meredith." Thatcher stammered.

"Oh okay. She's probably dropping the kids off at daycare. She'll probably be at the nurses station soon." Bailey replied. "Kids?" Thatcher asked. Bailey nodded. "I'll let you talk with her. I gotta run, it was nice to see you again." Bailey said as she hurried off.

"Kids?" Thatcher repeated to his family. "She's a grown woman dad. I'm sure she has kids." Molly said with a chuckle. "I had no idea." Thatcher said, almost as if he regretted leaving Meredith and Ellis.

He spotted his...Meredith walk right in front of them a distance away, not noticing them and walking right past to the nurses station. Molly started walking over, and the rest followed.

"Meredith?" Molly asked as she tapped her half sisters shoulder. Meredith turned around and her eyebrows raised when she saw them. "Molly, thatcher. Uh, what's up?" Meredith asked. "We-we heard about your accident a while ago. We just wanted to check in." Thatcher said as he looked at his daughters pregnant belly.

"Oh, uh, I'm doing well." Meredith replied. "Wsnt to get dinner tonight ? Catch up maybe?" Molly asked. Meredith hesitated for a moment before nodding. This is what Lexie would want. She thought to herself. "Uh, should I bring my family or..." Meredith trailed off. "Sure!" Molly exclaimed.

"How many kids do you have?" Thatcher asked. "2. Zola is 4 and Bailey is 3." Meredith replied. "Laura is almost 6 now." Molly said. "How about Capriennos? At 6?" Thatcher asked. "Okay. Uh, I have a surgery to get to. I'll see you guys tonight." Meredith said awkwardly as she turned around and left. "See? Wasn't so bad." Molly said to her father.

In Meredith and dereks surgery, Derek could tell Meredith was distracted. "Mer, what is it?" Derek asked quietly as he helped get some bleeders in the patients abdomen. "I think I just agreed to have dinner with thatcher and molly." Mereditj said.

"Tonight?" Derek asked. Meredith nodded. "Capriennos at 6. This is a bad idea." Meredith replied. "But it's what Lexie would want, right?" She asked. Derek knew Meredith needed reassurance right now. "It is." Derek replied. "Okay. We can do that, right?" Meredith asked. "We can." He replied. Meredith nodded and went back to work.

A few hours later, Meredith and Derek and the kids were all ready to leave. "Mama, where are we going again?" Zola asked. "We're going to have dinner with some of my...family." Meredith replied. "Okay." Zola said. They went to the car and started to drive to the restaurant.

Thatcher and Molly's family all were at the restaurant and looked up when they saw the family of four arrive. Thatcher immediately noticed the young girl in the mans arms and the boy who looked exactly like Meredith in her arms. "Hi." Thatcher said as they took their seats. Zola and Bailey
Peeked out from their parents shoulders and looked around curiously.

"Hi, I'm Derek." He said as he politely shook everyone's hands. "And this is our daughter Zola. Zo, that's your..." he trailed off looking at Meredith, who gave a nod. "That's your grandpa. And that's your aunt molly, and cousin Laura, and uncle Eric." Derek said. "Hi." Thatcher and molly both said softly to the girl. "Hi." Zola replied with a smile.

"Uh, this is Bailey our son." Meredith said as he looked around. "So uh, your pregnant Meredith?" Molly asked. "23 weeks." She replied with a smile. "Do you guys know the gender?" Thatcher asked. "It's a girl." Derek said happily. "Congratulations." He said.

They continued to chat throughout dinner, and at one point Zola scurried over and was making friends with her cousin, and Bailey ended up sitting with his grandpa. It was nice to watch the kids with thatcher, even if Meredith didn't have a good relationship with him. "I'm proud of you." Derek whispered. Meredith nodded and watched as her father told her son stories and how Zola and Laura played with their barbies.

After dinner, they all stood up to say their goodbyes. Thatcher gave Meredith a hug and smiled. "I'm proud of you." He said. "Your raising two amazing children." Thatcher said genuinely. Meredith smiled. "Thanks for agreeing to do this." Molly said as she gave her sister a hug. "It's whag Lexie would have wanted." Meredith replied honestly.

They said their goodbyes and all left the restaurant. "Mama, can we see grandpa thatch and everyone again?" Zola asked. "Maybe honey." Meredith said before she put Zola to bed.

Derek and Meredith met in bed that night and sighed in relief. "Yoy did good." Derek praised. "The kids like them." Mereditj replied. "They do." He agreed. "It wasn't bad. He actually said he was proud of me." Mereditj replied. "I'm sure he is Mer. Your mother couldn't do it all, but you are." Derek replied. "I love you." She said. "I love you too Mer." Derek said as he wrapped his arms around her and fell asleep
