(27th week of pregnancy)

While Meredith was in a surgery, she heard whispering amongst the hospital, but she wasn't sure what about. "What are they whispering about?" Meredith asked Bailey quietly over the patient. "You'll see soon." Bailey said, hiding a smirk under her mask.

Bailey knew what was going on. She knew Meredith would be thrilled, so she wanted to try to keep it a surprise. "Come on, tell me. Is it about the new cardio head?" Meredith begged. "Have some patience Grey. You'll see soon." Bailey scolded. Meredith scoffed and let It go for now.

An hour later, they scrubbed out of surgery and walked into the hallway. Meredith decided to do some post op charting when she was tapped on the shoulder. She turned around and her jaw dropped when she saw her person standing in front of her, in navy blue scrubs and a Grey Sloan lab coat.

"Cristina!" Meredith exclaimed as she threw her arms around her. "You know this constitutes hugging, right?" Cristina asked, sending both women into an eruption of laughs. "What-what are you doing here?" Meredith asked as she pulled back a little bit. "Well...I'm the new head of cardio here." Cristina said proudly.

"It's you? Your back?" Meredith asked excitedly. "I'm back." She said with a smile, this time putting her arms around her person. Meredith did the same and smiled. "Your fetus is in the way of our hug." Cristina mumbled against Merediths shoulder. Meredith giggled.

From a distance, Bailey could see the two reuniting. Alex joined the group too, and they were deep in conversation. It made her happy to know that her interns were still such a tight nite group. If izzie were here, it may have brought tears to her eyes. And if George were here, she would've started bawling.

Bailey walked over to them and smiled. "Yang, it's good to see you again." Bailey said as she gave an uncharacteristic hug. "It's nice to be back." She said with a relieved sigh. "It's like we're 10 years back in the past." Alex said with a laugh. "Except now Grey has kids and is the best general surgeon we have, Yang is the head of cardio, and Karev is one of the bed peds surgeons we have." Bailey said with a laugh. "I'm proud of all of you." She said genuinely.

"Thank your dr Bailey." They all said. "Now, all of you, take the day off. Or get yourselves all a surgery together." Bailey said before walking off. "I actually need you guys on my surgery. It's a tumor wrapped around her organs." Meredith said. "When is it?" Cristina asked. "10 minutes." Meredith replied. "Let's go." Alex said with a smile.

They scrubbed into their surgery and quickly began. "Can you help visualize and get bleeders?" Meredith asked. "Sure." Alex and Cristina said at the same time as they dabbed up bleeders and helped retract.

Up in the gallery, a lot of the hospital watched. Bailey, Richard, Derek, and Callie. "Can you believe they were interns 10 years ago and now they're doing a complicated surgery on their own?" Richard asked proudly. "It warms my heart." Bailey replied. "They were always the best interns. You did good Miranda." Derek said softly as he watched his wife and her best friends operate. "They were the best." Callie agreed.

"Thank you. All were missing is O'Malley and stevens." Bailey said with a sad smile. "Yeah." Richard breathed. "Bailey?" He asked. "Yes chief?" Bailey asked. "What do you think about me giving Grey chief of general?" He asked, causing Derek to perk up. "I mean, where would I go?" She asked. "Chief of Surgery." Richard replied with a smile.

"Are you serious?" She asked in astonishment. "It's time." He said simply. "I'll give the papers to you soon. And then we can tell Meredith." Richard replied happily. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Bailey chanted with a huge smile as she hugged Richard tightly before running off with Callie.

"She's better than Ellis." Richard said. "Meredith?" Derek asked. He nodded. "Ellis had the skill, but she didn't know how to handle a family and a demanding career. Meredith has the skill, possibly more, and she can handle her family." Richard said. "She's worked hard." Derek said proudly. "She has. She'll be thrilled when she gets head of general." He agreed. "She will." Derek replied, looking down at his wife proudly.

After their surgery, Meredith invited everyone to her house. They got home with the kids and quickly cleaned as best as they could.

Alex and Cristina arrived at the house and made themselves at home, both plopping themselves down on the couch with a beer. "Auntie Cris!" "Uncle Alex!" The kids squealed when they saw them. They ran over and jumped into them. "Hey bails, what's up? Hey zo!" Alex exclaimed. "Hi zo, bails!" Cristina said with a smile. Meredith and Derek watched happily. "Did you know about this?" She whispered. Derek snaked his arms around her midsection and held her close. "Yeah." He said softly. "I love you." He said. "I love you too." She replied.

"Hey lovebirds, come over here!" Cristina interrupted. They joined them on the couch. "Where are you staying Cristina?" Meredith asked. "Evil spawn here offered to stay at the Frat house, so I think I'll do that until I get an apartment." She replied. "Your reallt staying?" Meredith asked. "I'm really staying." Cristina replied.

That night, they all felt nostalgic, like they were suddenly back in their internship. "O'Malley." Alex said softly as he held up his beer, toasting to him. Cristina did the same, while Meredith held up her apple juice. "O'Malley." They all repeated.
