Meredith and Derek both had the day off since it was the Fourth of July. Derek got up with the kids around 8, wanting to leave his almost 13 week pregnant wife to sleep. He awoke to Bailey crying on the monitor and he got up, Meredith snoring away.

He went into his nearly 3 year old sons room and picked him up out of his crib. "Good morning Bails." Derek said quietly as he cradled his son. "Dada." Bailey said happily as Derek carried him to Zola's room, who was quietly playing with her dolls as she did every morning until someone came In.

"Good morning zo!" Derek exclaimed as the little
Almost 5 year old Girl wrapped her arms around his legs. "Hi daddy!" Zola replied with a smile. "You guys want breakfast or you want to watch some cartoons?" Derek asked. "Cartoons and breakfast!" They yelled. Derek chuckled and nodded, leading his two kids out to the living room.

While Derek made the kids some eggs, Zola and Bailey sat on the couch watching their favorite show, Doc McStuffins. Ironic, right?

He brought them their eggs and sat down. Bailey scrambled into his lap and Zola curled up next to him. Derek sighed in contentment. This is what he always wanted. Early mornings, curled up with his two kids watching their favorite show. He could always remember his dad doing it with him.

Meredith woke up around 10, feeling very well rested. She rubbed her belly softly and made her way downstairs upon hearing little giggles and squeals.

"Mama!" The kids cheered as they saw Meredith with a smile on her face. "Hi babies!" She said as she sat down next to Derek. Bailey scurried over to her and Bailey cuddled up against her baby bump while Zola moved to the other side of Derek, next to both of her parents, but not leaving his side. "Mamas boy." Meredith said with a laugh as she rubbed her sons back.

"Good morning." Derek said as he pressed a kiss against her lips. "Morning." Meredith said as she felt her hormones rise when she saw her husband. "What do you want to do today?" Derek asked. "I don't know. I've never really celebrated 4th of July." Meredith admitted. "Did you?" She asked. "Always. We can do what my family did." Derek suggested. "Sounds good to me." Meredith said.

"I made some eggs." Derek said. "Do we have muesli?" Meredith asked. Derek gave a confused look. "Cravings." She said with a small blush. "We do. I'll get you some." Derek said with a smile as he stood up.

A few minutes later, he returned to the couch and placed the bowl of cereal onto the table in front. "Should we tell the kids today?" Meredith asked quietly. "If you want to." Derek said. "I think we should." She admitted. "When?" Derek asked. "Now maybe?" She suggested. Derek nodded.

"Hey kids!" Derek called. They turned to their parents. "Zo, remember how you said you wanted a baby sister?" Meredith asked. Zola nodded. "Well, both of you are going to get a new brother or sister!" Derek exclaimed. "Really?!" They both screamed. "Really." Their parents confirmed with a smile. "Is that baby?" Zola asked, pointing to Merediths belly. "Yes it is." Meredith said. "Baby sister or bwother?" Bailey asked. "We don't know yet. We have to wait and see." Derek replied.

After they all ate, Derek and Meredith got the kids dressed and then themselves dressed. "Derek, what are we doing today?" Meredith asked. "It's a surprise. Dress warm." Derek said with a smile as he looked at his wife's half naked body, only wearing a bra and panties. He loved that she felt so comfortable around him.

"Derek." Meredith whined as she walked over to him, a little limp in her step. "Leg still bothering you?" Derek asked as he wrapped his arms around her. "Just sore." Meredith said as she kissed him softly. "I love you." Meredith said. "I love you too." He replied back. "Now let's get you changed and then get kids and go." Derek said as he helped Meredith change.

They gathered the kids and got them into the car. "Daddy, where are we going?" Zola asked. "It's a surprise. Do you guys know what day it is?" Derek asked. "4th of July." Zola responded. "That's a special day, so we're going to do some special things." Derek replied. Zola nodded.

"Ferryboat rides?" Meredith asked with a big smile as Derek pulled Into the parking lot. Derek nodded and they got out. Meredith held Bailey in her arms and Derek held Zola.

They boarded they ferry and the kids sat down on the chairs. Keeping a close eye on Zola and Bailey, Meredith put her hands on the rail and looked out at the sea. She used to be afraid of ferry boats due to her drowning that happened years ago. Derek came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, holding on to the bar protectively.

Meredith leant back and rested her head on his shoulder. "How you feeling?" Derek asked. "Good." Meredith replied. "Can you believe we've come this far?" Meredith asked. "It's incredible." Derek said softly as he kissed her neck. "It is." Meredith agreed as she and Derek looked at their kids, who were happily playing with each other. "They're so perfect." Meredith said. "Yes they are." Derek said in awe.

"I never wanted this, you know? I never wanted a family, I never wanted a husband, I didn't think I would have any of that. But now standing here with the love of my life and my 2, soon to be 3 perfect children, I can't think of my life without you and them." Meredith said with a smile. "I love you so much." Derek said. "I love you too." Meredith replied.

After the ferry boat ride, they all got back into the car and Derek drove off once again to an undisclosed location.

Derek unloaded the kids and led them and Meredith on the grass, right in front of the water where a beautiful sunset was forming. He laid down a towel and placed a basket of food on it. "This is gorgeous." Meredith said in shock. "Just wait for it." Derek said. Zola was in his lap, and Bailey was in Merediths, both cuddled up. "I brought your favorite." Derek said as he opened the basket, revealing a steaming hot pizza. "Pizza!" The kids exclaimed. Derek and Meredith laughed.

That's when the fireworks began. Meredith watched in awe of the beauty and Derek smiled at their kids and his wife's shocked faces. The sunset and the fireworks created a picture that could only be seen, not described. "This is beautiful, Derek." Meredith said. "You're beautiful." Derek said, causing a blush to creep up on her face. "I love you all so much." Derek said as he cuddled his wife and kids.
