What if it was Meredith

Chapter 17

Meredith was now 10 weeks along in her pregnancy, and it was time for her to get her leg scanned and another ultrasound.

She woke up feeling great. The morning sickness had just about gone away, and now she was really enjoying her pregnancy. She wasn't showing quite yet, but her and Derek were Sure she would soon.

Derek helped Meredith downstairs and gently sat her down in chair by the kitchen counter. "Ready to see baby today?" Derek asked. "Yes!" Meredith exclaimed. "Mer, when do you wanna tell the kids?" Derek asked after a pause. "Let's just wait a few more weeks until I start showing." Meredith decided. "Okay. That sounds good." Derek said as he smiled and pressed a kiss to her lips.

Meredith moaned greedily into his mouth and pulled away, gasping for breath. "Mmm." Derek moaned. "If my leg is all better after my scans today I am totally taking advantage of you." Meredith said as she pulled Derek in for a hug.

"I can't argue with that." Derek smirked as he hugged her back. He rested his hands on her waist and smiled. "I love you." He said. "I love you too." Meredith replied with a smile. "Resdy to go?" He asked. "Yup! The kids are with Callie and Arizona today, right?" Meredith asked. "Yup. They're gonna bring them to daycare and then we'll bring them home." Derek said as he handed her her crutches.

Meredith took them and her and Derek slowly made their way out the door and into the car.

Once they arrived at the hospital, Meredith and Derek made their way to the ortho floor and Meredith sat down while Derek checked her in. "Meredith?" Callie asked as she came in with a smile. They stood up and walked to Callie who led them to an exam room.

"How ya feeling Grey?" Callie asked. "Good. I'm ready to take this brace off." Meredith said with a chuckle. "Okay. I'm gonna take a few X-rays, so if you could just get your leg up for me and I'll get this done." Callie requested. Meredith, with a little help from Derek managed to get her leg straight on the table and Callie put a film under it and took the scan.

Callie turned the lights off and studied the films through the light X-ray. "Hmmm...everything looks good. The bones are all healed and the pins are all still set. So, you don't have to wear the brace anymore, but take it easy. It will still probably hurt a little every now and then, but Advil or Tylenol will help with that." Callie explained.

Meredith Smiled as she pulled the leg brace off. "Thank you." She said genuinely. "Anytime Grey. Whatcha up to now?" Callie asked as she turned to Derek. "Uh, well, I don't know if you already knew this but we're expecting again." Derek said with a proud smile. "No kidding! That's awesome! How far along?" She asked. "10 weeks today. We're getting an ultrasound today." Meredith replied. "That's great you guys. I'm happY for you. Now go check on that little munchkin." Callie said as she hugged the pair.

Derek and Meredith walked to OB, Meredith only had a slight limp that was slowing her down. "Grey!" Bailey said as she came over with a smile. "Hey!" They replied. "How you feeling?" Bailey asked. "Good. Everything's good. We're getting an ultrasound." Meredith said with a smile. "Nice Grey. Glad to see you back here. When do you come back to work?" Bailey asked. "3 days. Because a certain someone made me take off 3 weeks." Meredith said with a sneer. Bailey snorted. "You'll thank me for it later. Good luck at the ultrasound." Bailey said as she walked off.

They got to the OB floor and were taken into a room. Meredith laid down on the exam table and waited for Connie to enter.

"Dr Grey, dr Shepherd, how are you?" Connie asked with a smile as she came in. "Good." They both replied. "How are the other kids?" She asked. "They're good. Growing every day." Meredith said with a chuckle. Connie laughed. "How about we check the baby?" Connie asked. Derek and Meredith nodded.

"Lift your shirt up plewse." Connie said. Meredith tucked in her shirt under her bra strap and Connie squirted the cool gel onto her stomach and spread it around. "Let's see baby Shepherd." Connie said. "And here's its head. You can see it's little fingers growing as well." Connie said as she moved the probe around. Meredith and Derek smiled happily at their baby. "It looks to be growing very well. It seems very healthy and at a normal size for this point in the pregnancy. Now Meredith, you haven't experience any spotting? Cramping?" Connie asked. "Nothing other than morning sickness, but that's been getting better." Meredith replied. "Good." Connie said as she started to clean off the gel.

"Here you are." Connie said as she handed Derek a pile of ultrasound pictures. "Thank you." Derek said. "Anytime. I'll see you guys in a few weeks for your 18 week appointment, and maybe we'll see if baby Shepherd is a boy or a girl." Connie said with a smile as she left the room.

Derek bent over and kissed Meredith. "I love you so much. Every time I see our baby I think of how far we've come." Derek said. "I know, right?" Meredith asked with a chuckle as she slid off of the table.

That night, they picked up the kids from daycare and went home. Meredith and Derek reviewed some tricky cases Nelson sent over for him to review, while the kids happily played with their toys.

"Mama? Can I have a sidter?" Zola asked out of the blue. "Uh, why do you ask Zo?" Meredith asked as she shared a look with Derek. "Joey from school just getted a baby sister and she's so cute." Zola explained. "Maybe Zo." Derek replied. She seemed to accept that answer and went back to playing with her toys. "She won't be happy if we have a boy." Meredith whispered with a laugh. Derek smiled and pulled Meredith closer to him on the couch.
