Sophie's POV

"Mom! Someone is at the door!" Calla yelled from downstairs. What if it was Fitz? I couldn't let him trick me the same way he did last time. I couldn't swoon by his feet. I had to stand tall as if I had never met him. I took in a heavy breath. "Coming!"

Trudging down the stairs, I quickly called Orrep.

"What do you want ma'am?" Orrep asked.

"Just stand guard while I open the door. Just in case, you know?"

"Yes, Ma'am, I fully understand," he replied obediently. My hand clenched the door handle and I pulled the door open.

"Fitz."

"Oh my gosh, Soph! You have no idea how much I missed you!" Fitz outstretched his hands as if he expected me to trust him.

"Fitz, if it really is you, then I missed you too... but I can't be sure that it's really you... I'm calling Quinlin, he can check your DNA." As much as I wanted to run up and kiss him, but I needed to be sure I was safe. I grabbed my imparter from upstairs and hailed Quinlin.

"Show me Quinlin."

"Hi, Sophie! What can I do for you today?"

"Um, you must've heard about the fake Fitz who tried to kill me?"

"Oh, um yes... is something wrong?"

"Well, Fitz has come at my door, and I'm afraid that he'll find me vulnerable if I check his memories, so can you test his DNA?"

"Of course! I'll be right there!" I really hoped it was him. After what had happened, I couldn't look at Fitz the same way. I wanted to feel his soft lips against mine without worrying that he would cut my throat. And I really, really wanted to look into his eyes and tell him "I love you".

Seconds after all those thoughts, Quinlin appeared with a briefcase.

"Let's get started, shall we?" We ran down the stairs and got to where Fitz was standing. "Lick this."

Fitz wasn't being reluctant, so I took that as a good sign. But my unoptimistic side had to tell me that it could be because he had back up. He grabbed the DNA sensor and gave it a lick. Handing it back to Quinlin, he turned to me.

"Why don't you trust me?"

"Fitz, I really want to, but is it really you? I mean, I thought it was you, but then somebody tried to stab me! I can't let it happen again."

"I understand," he assured me.

Did that mean it really was him? It seemed a little weird that he was caving in so easily, which made me wonder if it really was him. Unless he really did have back up.

"Okay!" Quinlin interrupted. "I think I've come to a conclusion!"
