Broken B2 - Together

Chapter 3

The air held the wispy scent of snake venom. "Dad?" I called in worry. "DAD!?"

Then I heard a voice. It was raspy, but the familiar accent could be heard. "You'll never get away with this," it said.

"Dad?"I asked.

"Calla, welcome to the show!" Another voice said. It boomed through the cramped space. "I'm assuming you brought your brother."

I shook my head.

"You know, I don't like liars." He held Kenric high above the ground. He must've been a telepath.

"What do you want?" I tried to sound confident, but I miserably failed.

"I wanted your mother, but that's alright."

"Run," dad coughed in a barely hearable voice.

"DON'T MESS WITH MY FAMILY!"

"Oh, but that is difficult when your mom is the moonlark!" he teased. I felt the anger bubbling inside and I sent a massive wave of mental energy his way, knocking him off his feet. His head made a large crack that made me cringe. I thought we were safe, but I hadn't realized he'd let go of his grip on Kenric.

"KENRIC!" dad screamed before catching him mid-fall. He lowered my brother to the ground before collapsing.

I looked around. I hadn't brought my home crystal, and neither had dad. We couldn't light leap anyway, dad wouldn't be able to hold himself together. I lifted my gaze to the man. He was cradling himself as if he had just been hit with a blast of anger. Then the realization dawned on me. What if he had been hit with a blast of anger. A blast of my anger.

He stared at me before scrambling to the wall behind him. He grabbed a crystal from the floor. That's our Crystal, I realized.

"Wait! NO!" I tried to run up and stop him, but he had safely leaped away.
