Sophie's POV

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6," I counted everyone's head. "I know Biana is on the way, but I still feel like someone is missing."

"Guys!" Biana burst into the room, sounding worried. "I can't find Dex anywhere!"

"I'll ask his mom." I pulled the imparter out of my pocket. "Show me Juline Dizznee."

"Thank god you called!" she sounded relieved. "I can't find Dex! I hope you found him."

"Actually... I was going to ask you the same thing."

"Oh, Dexter," she said with a motherly sorrow. "Thanks f -" Ding dong. "DEX!" she dropped her imparter, which made a screeching noise on our side. I heard the creak of the door opening through the imparter.

"Hello, Mrs. Dizznee," Liora's soft voice was heard through the imparter.

"WHERE'S DEX!?" Juline screamed. I heard Liora grunt, which probably meant Juline had pushed her.

"Please, Mrs. Dizznee, calm down. I am here to inform you that last night Master Cadence found Lord Dizznee's body in the secret room behind the Cimmerian mirror."

Juline fell to the floor, sobbing. "DEX!!!" With that, I hung up.

How could I not notice my own best friend and sort of cousin was missing!? I felt tears slip down my cheeks. He'd told me I wasn't with him enough. He said I was ignoring him. And it was all true! And I didn't even get to say goodbye. I felt the mattress shift, and somebody wrapped their arms around me. I saw the tears glisten inside the pair of ice blue eyes next to me. I hugged Keefe back, sobbing into his jerkin.

"It's all my fault!" I mumbled.

"Shhh, it's okay. You didn't do anything. You're okay, it's okay," Keefe consoled, rocking me back and forth.

I lifted my head and noticed Biana giving me a sideways glare. What was I doing? I was in the arms of her boyfriend.

"Keefe? A moment?" she asked.

Keefe just looked at her but she grabbed him and dragged him out the door. A minute passed. Then two. It wasn't right to eavesdrop, but I needed to know what was going on. I didn't want anything else to happen because of me. I stretched my thought's out the door, linking all three of our minds together.

"Keefe!" Biana started to scold.

"I'm sorry, okay? Sophie just needed support an-"

"- I know. But I've also seen the way you look at her. You haven't even glanced at me like that. I get it, she's effortlessly beautiful, brave, strong, powerful, and just so much better than me so - "

"Biana, that isn't true! You're an amazing person! And I do love you, but I'm starting to realize I love you like a sister, okay?"

"Fine. But let me tell you this as a friend, not as a girlfriend. I think you guys are perfect for each other. But I also think that you should take it easy! She just lost my wretched brother, so just... be careful!"

"I will, I swear. But, back to the boyfriend-girlfriend thing here; does that mean we're..."

"Yes, we're over, Hunkyhair. But that's okay. Go get her!" and with that, they both entered the room, smiling. But those smiles completely melted when they remembered the previous events. That's when I remembered what I brought them here for.

Biana took a seat in a chair, while Keefe came to sit next to me. Biana winked at him.

"I gathered us here to talk about Fitz," I told everyone. "I want to know exactly what happened that night when Fitz stabbed me. That means I'll have to probe his mind. And to do that, I need to go back to Exile."

A/N Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it. Don't kill me or anything, but I was actually smiling during Dex's demise. Say it with me: Dex is deceased! Dex is deceased! Anyway, thanks for reading!
