"Okay, here's the grocery list, here's some money and I'll come pick you up in 2 hours." instructed Gina's mom as she dropped a slip of paper and some bills and coins into Gina's hands. Gina safely tucked the cash into her wallet and walked into the store as her mother drove away.
As she used her fingers to push her glasses higher up on her nose to read the grocery list, Gina discovered something. It was terrible. It was horrible. She wasn't wearing her glasses. She tried to recall where she had left them and she realized that they were on her desk from when she was changing at home and unfortunately, since she was farsighted, she wouldn't be able to read the list!
She looked down at the slip of paper with her mother's tiny, messy cursive scrawled on it. Gina mentally cursed her mom's tiny printing. Freaking Thumbelina has larger printing than mom! Suppressing a groan, Gina brought the paper closer to her face, in hopes her vision magically changed. No luck, it was still too blurry to read. She pulled it back, the print cleared but by then, the cursive was too small to be legible!
Arghhh! Beginning to lose patience, Gina began to get frustrated.
"Do you need help reading that?" Inquired a boy's voice behind her. She turned around to see who spoke and scowled, her blue eyes squinting menacingly. Even without her glasses, Gina could identify who it was by his blonde hair and sparkling green eyes. It was Chris, the boy who broke her heart in 3rd grade and she still bore a deep hatred of him. His dimples appeared as he grinned evilly at her. "I mean, for an unattractive girl, you're blind and stupid." Added Chris casually.
Gina could feel her face heat up and she blushed furiously, earning a chuckle from the attractive boy before her. She glared at him. She despised his very being. His beautiful golden hair that reflected light; his glittering, playful, green eyes; his dazzling white smile that upturned maliciously as he looked down upon her face.
"No I do not need help reading this paper." Responded Gina in a cold and clipped tone. "Prove it." Chris said as he raised one eyebrow. He was challenging her! Gina fumed inwardly and decided to back down.
Gina and Chris had always been at war with each other since the third grade. Be it sports or grades, they were always at the top, battling for first place. Even though Gina tried her best to crush him into the dust at schoolwork and physical activities, he still surpassed her by a long shot.
Ignoring Chris' ignorant grin, Gina turned around and walked away. Shocked by the lack of a hateful response, Chris walked after her. Panicking slightly, Gina walked faster, trying to escape Chris, which was difficult for he had much longer legs.
She risked glancing behind her to see if she lost him, but he was even closer now, gaining on Gina, his mouth filled with teasing (but hurtful) insults. Practically running, she caught a glimpse of the public washroom and made a mad dash inside.
She closed the door and sighed deeply but when she turned around, she was greeted by a petrifying sight. She froze in horror when, at the other side of the room, she saw her best friend, Al's back turned away from her, his head swivelled to reflect the shock and terror of her face.
In that split second, Gina knew she was doomed. She was in the boys' washroom.
