After almost half a day waiting for new announcements, a blonde, semi-tall nurse came in the private room where the Todorokis and 1A clan were waiting, notifying them of Shoto's current state.
"Hello, my name is Joy and I'm Shouto's nurse during his stay. He suffered many extreme injuries, most of them requiring surgery. We wanted to keep him in his room alone until he woke up for at least an hour to monitor his state. Sadly to say, though his injuries will all heal eventually and only leave scars in the future, his mental state is in grave condition and will most likely never go back to its original state. We are allowing a maximum of two people to enter the room to not overwhelm him. Thank you."
Immediately, everyone's gazes went straight to Endeavor and Aizawa, prompting them to go first, as they knew these two people were either close to Shouto or good with these situations. Joy guides them through a couple hallways while explaining more about Shouto's condition.
"From one look, it is very prominent that he suffered from many experiments, torture, and isolation. We haven't been able to talk with him, so we hope that you can get him back again, even just a little bit. The only thing we found from him was a letter in his hero costume and the origin or its contents still remains a question."
Finally, they reached a door with the number 376 on it. The nurse motioned them to enter as she stayed outside looking through a window which showed the inside. As they went in, they noticed just how gloomy the atmosphere was. The lights were dimmed to almost seem like night-time and the only things standing out were the blinking screens and beeping sounds of the machines. On the bed, they could barely see the patient. Instead what they could see was a mass of bandages, tubes, and dried blood. And the closer you looked, you saw rested a pair of grey and blue eyes, looking into the distance with a layer of tears covering them, a trembling body under the bandages, and overall, a broken person with no sign of life.
The two heroes stood opposite next to the bed, trying to signal their present to the kid, but instead, no reaction came from him. They watched as the boy's chest began to rapidly move up and down, up and down, until he was fully panicking yet still just looking in the same direction with the same lost eyes. In a desperate attempt to calm him down, Aizawa placed his hand on the boy's shoulder, which did snap the kid out of his panic in exchange with a strong flinch making both student and teacher pushed back from their positions and a loud scream saying "PLEASE DONT HURT ME!"
After a couple of seconds of the three men trying to return to the more peaceful atmosphere from before, Shouto leaned back on the wall behind his bed, eyes diverting back to their original place from when the two men entered, and in a silent manner with no signal, the shine on his eyes went away and were replaced with a waterfall of tears falling from his cheeks and onto his lap while he muttered under his breath 'I'm sorry' again and again and again.
Upon the two heroes seeing this, it instantly broke their hearts at how unstable their son/student had become. He was no longer the Shouto Todoroki they once knew. He was no longer this reserved, calm and collected, strong looking kid they once knew, accepted, and came to love. They even wondered how he could still be alive. They could imagine how he was most likely just living on a thread of hope, wherever that 'hope' was coming from.
