Hermione, Harry, and I had been invited to Slughorn's Christmas party and were allowed to bring a date.
I personally had no idea who I would bring, but if I couldn't find anyone I would just go alone. And honestly, that sounds better.
Harry, Hermione, Ron, and I were at breakfast when Ron brought up the dinner party.
"So, how was Slughorn's dinner party?" Ron asks, he hadn't been able to ask sooner because he was busy with Lavender.
"Quite boring, really. I think Harry enjoyed dessert though" Hermione says.
I give her a confused look, for some reason she had been wanting me and Harry to get together more than usual.
"We've been invited to his Christmas party, I'm not really looking forward to it" I say.
"Have you two found dates yet?" Harry asks.
"Nope" me and Hermione say.
"Neither have I" Harry says.
"Let me guess, Hermione's gonna go with McLaggen" Ron says.
"I was actually thinking of asking you" Hermione says.
Me and Harry both looked up immediately at her, she was finally going to ask Ron out.
She didn't end up asking him.
*Later in the library*
"He's perfectly able to kiss whoever he wants to. Did I have the impression that he would attend Slughorn's Christmas party with me? Yes. But due to recent events, I've had to make other arrangements" Hermione says, putting books on the shelves.
"You found a date?" I ask.
"Yes, I'm not proud of who it is though" Hermione says.
"Who is it?" I ask.
"Cormac" Hermione says quietly.
"You asked Cormac to be your date?!" I ask.
"Yes" Hermione says.
"Do you actually want to go with him?" I ask, already knowing her answer.
"No, of course not" Hermione says.
"Do you want me to go with him instead? And you can go with someone else? Someone you might like going with?" I ask.
"You'd really do that?" Hermione asks.
"Yeah" I say.
"Thank you so much" Hermione says.
"You're welcome. Now who are you going with since I got Cormac?" I ask.
"I don't know" Hermione says.
"Maybe you and Harry can go as friends" I suggest.
"That'll work for me" Hermione says.
"How about you Harry? You said you didn't have a date. You alright with going with Hermione?" I ask.
He nods his head. Even though I wanted to go with Harry, I didn't want Hermione to suffer going with Cormac.
"It's not like you can go with just anyone anyways" Hermione says.
Harry and I share a confused look.
"You see that girl over there?" Hermione asks, pointing to a girl sitting at a desk.
Harry and I nod.
