Plans Change || Twenty-One

Colby's POV:

Cariah and I got back from her grandmas house a little while ago and I'm so fucking confused.

Cariah and my mom were playing a board game and we're getting along great. But I needed to go and talk to Jade.

"So I'm gonna go get us some food. You cool here?" I asked Cariah.

Please don't say you wanna come.

"Yeah I'm fine. Thanks" she said.

Yess.

"Okay I'll be back" I said before I walked out of the house. I drove back over to Cariah's grandma's house.

"Colby what are you doing here?"

"We need to talk" I said. She opened the door and motioned for me to go inside. I went in and sat on the couch. She came and sat at the couch in front of me.

"How are you here? I thought....I thought you died 18 years ago" I said looking down while saying the last part.

"I did. The first time" She said causing me to look up at her.

"What do you mean the first time?" I asked.

"The first time when I attempted suicide I did die but was brought back I was still so suicidal my entire pregnancy. I just was waiting for Cariah to be born so I could basically kill myself. But I got to a point that I really didn't care about her. I caused the car accident. But made sure that the way I crashed I'd be critical and Mariah and Crystal would be fine. Doctors were able to keep me from dying and they were about to tell my family I made it but I had to beg them to tell them I died. So I could live a different life and forget my old one. Since I was 18 they respected my wishes" She explained.

"Wow. I can't believe how selfish you were. You didn't care about your daughter or what happened to her. And you definitely didn't care about me or your parents or best friends." I said as I stood up.

"It was best for Cariah to go with my parents. Although i later found out she was given to her father"

"Yeah because everyone thought I was her father. Therefore Cariah was given to me. She could have very easily got put in the fucked up foster care system and been suicidal just like you"

"But she didn't. She ended up with Jackson. Jackson is successful and can give her everything I can't"

"He's the worst father ever. He kicked her out of the house because she got in contact with me, he changed her name to Cariah Danielle Fulton and never told her her real name, and he told her that you left them and wanted nothing to do with them and - wait. How did you know Jackson was successful?" I asked. I sat down.

"Umm lucky guess?" she said more as a question.

"Have you been in contact with him?"

"Yes. I've been in contact with him for about 6 years. I've been over to their house a few times too"

"I cannot believe you Jade. After all the bullshit he put you through you'd stay in contact with him? And you never thought to take Cariah from him?" I said as I stood up and walked towards the door.

"I thought she was better with him"

"You know what I can't deal with this anymore. You two are the worst parents ever. And I'm gonna tell Cariah everything" I said before looking at her one last time then opening the door.

"Oh no you won't"

"And why wouldn't I" I asked as I paused.

"Because I'll tell the cops you've been hooking up with my underage daughter"

"I'm not hooking up with her" I said before closing the door.

"Say what you want Brock but I can see the look of lust in your eyes when you look at her. And if you blab to her I'll rat you out" she said. She stood up and walked over to me.

"Why are you doing all this? What did I ever do to you? Besides love you and your child more than I loved myself"

"You didn't do anything to me. But I don't want Cariah to find out I left her. She'd hate me. And after all I am still her mother" she said. She got closer to me.

"What are you doing?" I asked her since she was getting uncomfortably close to me.

"I just wanted to let you know Colby, regardless of the way things ended with us, you'll always have a special place in my heart. You were there for me when nobody else was. But at the end of the day it just wasn't enough. I was too damaged, and I just couldn't take the pain anymore" She explained.

"All I've been doing with Cariah is telling her about the past. Jackson never told her anything and she wanted to know, therefore I told her. It's nothing more than that. All she wanted to know about was her mom, so turn me in for doing nothing all you want but your daughter misses you and wants you in her life. Maybe its time you start doing something for someone other than you for a change. Starting with the human YOU made and YOU bought into this world" I said before opening the door and walking out.

Obviously I know there's more going on with Cariah then me just telling her about her past. But I don't need to tell Jade that. Cariah should know. Right? I might go to jail if I tell her. Is it worth it? Or should I just not tell her and we can move on with our lives?
