Plans Change || Twenty-Two

Cariah's POV:

Colby and I have been back in LA for about a week now. I've been staying at Colby's and haven't heard from my dad in days. Which isn't usually abnormal but for the situation it is. I have been staying with Colby and he's been a little distant lately. Which is weird because Colby isn't really distant.

"Hey is everything okay?" I asked him. He was on his phone very quietly and I was sitting near him.

"Yeah why?" he asked not even looking up at me.

"Well ever since we came back from Sanger you've been kinda distant. Did someone tell you something while we were there?" I asked. He finally looked up at me. he locked his phone then put it down.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Cariah there's something I have to tell you" he said. Okay now I'm kinda scared.

"What's up?" I asked.

"Riley is actually your mom. She told me a week ago and I didn't know how to tell you but I figured you should know. She's also been in contact with your dad for the past few years" he said.

"Wait what?" I asked.

"I know it's a lot to take in but she is your mom. Your mom never died when you were born. She's alive" he said.

I'm so confused.

"So...so you lied to me when you said she died?" I asked.

"No. I didn't even know she was alive till we went to your grandma's house. But when she took you to give you pictures and you guys left me and "Riley" in the living room she said some suspicious things that made it sound like she was Jade and finally she admitted it to me. I even went back later that day and confronted her about it" he said.

"Wow. Okay. That is a lot to take in" I said.

"I'm sorry for not telling you sooner"

"I think I want to go see her again" I said.

"She'll know I told you though" Colby said.

"You think she won't be happy that I know?" I asked.

"Probably not" he said.

"What if I just don't tell her I know and just pretend that I think she's Riley my mom's cousin" I suggested. He seemed a little hesitant at first.

"I mean yeah if you want" he said.

"I think I want to go alone" I said.

"Okay" he said.

"Oh hey Cariah. What are you doin here?" Riley says as she opens the door.

"Oh well I came to return these pictures to your aunt. I figured these are her prized possessions so I didn't want to lose them or anything to happen to them" I said as I motioned to the box of pictures in my hands.

"Well come in" I walked into the house and placed the box on the table and sat on the couch.

"So I know that you said you didn't really talk to my mom but is it ok if I ask you questions about her? I could never really get anything about her out of my dad" she smiled and nodded. We had a conversation for a while and it felt really good getting to talk to my mom. Even though I was pretending I knew it wasn't her. After awhile a car honked outside.

"Oh my aunt is home. Let me go and open the garage for her and help her bring in the groceries. I'll be right back" I was just sitting there when her phone went off and I saw on her screen was a message from my dad.
