Chapter 10: His Dance

A few people had left the ball and returned to the carriages. The women were satisfied to dance with the prince and the males were happy to enjoy the sight of the women trying. Half of the guests had returned to their carriages and left the Madrathia Empire. A huge amount of people were still in the ballroom trying to get a dance with the prince, but the night was growing long. Quinn was getting tired of dancing with all of the women and he wanted to retreat to his quarters to sleep.

He never found time to look for you and ask for a dance, and it left him in a sad state. He knew the night was going to be long, but he had hoped to dance with you. Now he fears that you've retired to your room for the night. The woman he was dancing with wouldn't stop talking his ear off about her kingdom and how much she was wanted by the men there. He was getting irritated.

Jin had danced with you for most of the night and you two went back inside to grab something to eat. You were feeling tired as well, but you didn't want to leave without Genevive or Elina. Jin understood and bid you goodnight, with a kiss on your hand. He left the ballroom to return to his room and fall into a deep slumber. You were sad that Jin was leaving but at the same time you were fine with it, you knew he was tired.

You were now wandering around the ballroom looking for Elina or Genevive. You wanted to make sure they were okay before you left to sleep. While you wandered the ballroom Quinn's blue eyes found you walking around. His eyes sparkled and he suddenly didn't feel tired anymore. His eyes weren't focused on the princess in front of him anymore, but rather your form.

   " So, then he came back to the palace and asked for my hand in marriage but I had denied him. He wouldn't leave the palace until I had agreed and I had to call for the guards to escort him out. Another time this different guy named Ji-Young gave me all of his assets and dreamed me worthy of marria-where are you going? Prince Quinn? "

Quinn had spun around to where his back was facing you, and when he got to this position he let go of the princess and walked in your direction. The princess was left in the middle of the other guests dancing and stormed off the floor. Quinn's eyes were trained on you and he was determined to make it to you. You didn't notice him as you were standing and now looking for your friends. Quinn was almost there, he was almost there.

   ' Where are they? '

Someone had grabbed your hand from behind and you turned towards them. You could recognize the icy blue eyes of Prince Quinn and he was breathing was ragged. You turned towards him, worry written in your features.

   " Prince Quinn are you alright? You're breathing very heavily. "

   " I'm fine. It's just hot in here. "

   " Then would you like to go outside? I'll run to the table and grab you some water-"

   " No! "

Quinn had just found you. He didn't want to let you go, because he knew that if he did he would lose you in the crowd once more. He didn't want to lose something he had just found.

   " I-I mean. No, I'm alright. Y/n would you please join me for this next dance? "

   " Prince Quinn, I thought you would be tired. "

   " I am, but I wanted to save my last dance for you. "

Now, you knew you had to. He held your hand still and the touch sent electricity up his arm. You had finally nodded your head and he smiled a toothy grin while letting out a sigh of relief. He tugged on your hand and led you to the middle of the ballroom. He stopped and turned towards you.

He put his other arm around your waist and he continued to hold your hand. You rested your free arm on his arm and he started to slowly waltz with you. Your eyes wandered the ballroom as you waltzed looking for your friends. Quinn's eyes were focused on you. You were completely different from how the other girls acted and dressed.

You were light on your feet, and the dress that was on you was perfect. Your face had on a light coat of makeup to the point you couldn't really tell it was makeup. He could feel a slight heat on his face and he smiled knowing what it was.

   " So, where have you been most of the night? I haven't been able to find you when I look around the ballroom. "

   " Well, I helped the kitchen staff, and then I went out to stargaze. I've been outside most of the night. "

   " Stargazing? I assume you like looking at the stars? "

   " It's what I study. My father was an astrologist and he loved the stars. He would teach me about the stars and show me where the constellations were. I found a love for stars after the first time he showed me the constellations, that he knew by memory. "

   " He sounds like a wonderful man. "

   " He was. "

   ' Was? What happened? ' Quinn asked in his mind.

   " Well, I can agree with you that the stars are fascinating. I find myself looking at them a little every night. I stargaze a little every night before retiring to my bed. "

   " Really? What's your favorite constellation? "

   " I would say that it would be Scorpius. I can always find that constellation when I look out of my window. "

   " Scorpus is a very good constellation. The Ursa Major and Minor are pretty good too. "

   " It's nice to talk with someone who is intellectual. The princesses around tonight have only talked with me about their money and power. Along with how they are so desired in their kingdom. "

   " Found the queen yet? "

Quinn thought for a moment and gazed into your eyes. The thought of you standing beside him in a royal portrait with a crown on your head brought a smile to his face.

   " I think I have. "

   " Who's the lucky girl? "

   " You'll see. "

You only nodded your head, and he felt so comfortable dancing with you and holding you. He wanted this to last forever. His tiredness left him as soon as his eyes found you and you started dancing with him. He smiled a genuine smile and he had a fuzzy feeling in his chest. You on the other hand had a fuzzy feeling for someone else.

You finally spotted Elina and Genevive. You turned back to the princess and stopped moving, making him stop.

   " Prince Quinn I must leave you now. I believe it's time for me to retire to my room and I've just found my friends. "

Quinn looked past you and saw who you were talking about. His smile faded and he held a face of melancholy. He nodded and took your hand in his. He kissed the back of your hand and allowed you to leave his side.

   " Please, call me Quinn from now on. "

You only nodded and ran back to your friends. When you got to them you three left the ballroom to retire to your rooms. Quinn watched as you left and he felt fatigued. The dance with you was definitely worth it, and he didn't regret it one bit.
