Chapter 5: A New Friend

   " I'm going into town today? Is there anything you need, Genevieve? "

   " A melon baller. I want to ball my eyes out. That's why Ray never helped you clean. Because she was fooling around with the king! "

   " Don't shout! Who knows who will hear. She'll be executed for that. "

   " I just can't believe it. "

You rolled your eyes and grabbed your bag. You walked out of your room and through the front gates of the castle. You walked wearing your usual clothes into town and you started walking around the many shops. 

   ' What do I need? I need to ask the tailor if he can prepare me a dress for the ball. I'll be working but the queen said she wants us to dress appropriately. '

You walked into the tailor's shop and he was running around the shop with many fabrics on the floor and on his body.

   " Mr. Cawer are you alright? "

   " No! I've waisted so much fabric on this one dress and the person who requested it doesn't even want it! "

   " I'm sorry Mr. Cawer. "

   " There's nothing for you to apologize for dear. That witch doesn't know taste if it bit her on the ass. "

   " Is there anything I can do to help? "

   " Hmmm. "

Mr. Cawer walked up to you and started looking at the dress you were wearing. It was plain and awful. He looked back at the dress he made before and then back at you. He went and put the dress in the box and handed it to you. 

   " Take the dress. "

   " How much? "

   " It's free if you just take it right now. I don't want to see it again. With your body type, it should fit. "

   " Thank you Mr. Cawer. "

   " Have a nice day dear. "

You walked out of the tailor's with the box in your hand. You opened the box to see the dress beautifully folded up with jewelry and shoes to go with it. You closed the box and started walking to your next destination. You walked to the bakery next and grabbed a loaf of bread. You put it in your satchel and continued walking around town.

The town was small but nice and quant. You lived in a village like it before your parents were killed in the last war. The war took many lives and that included your family. You survived because you weren't home. So, you found a new place to live and got a job at the palace. 

It was scary but it would work. You just wanted enough money so you could one day quit and travel the world. You wanted to go places and see everything the world could give you. The only thing is you were low on cash. Hence why you got a job at the palace. 

The palace paid their maids a lot of money and within two to three more years you would be able to leave and start your journey. Of course, you would miss Elena and Genevive but you had a dream to travel. So, you saved your money and spent it when necessary. Now you had bread, an outfit, and some fruits for the next week and the ball. 

   ' Is there anything else I need? '

As you were walking around you saw a first aid kit. You realized you didn't have one in your room yet. You decided to buy it just in case Genevive got herself hurt. She was clumsy and she would break a lot of things. Of course, you would help her, but you never checked for injuries. 

You forgot while you would be cleaning up her mess. You decided that was all you needed and started walking back to the castle. To get back to the castle you had to walk through a set of woods to get there. If you followed the trail you would be fine but if you got off the trail you would be lost. You were walking down the trail as the sun started setting. 

The stars would soon be out and you smiled at the thought of seeing the constellations. Your father was an astronomer. And he would teach you about the different constellations there were. Every night you would pick out constellations before going to sleep, so you could remember your family. As you were walking you saw a man limping towards the castle.

He was in black clothes but his head wasn't covered. 

   " Excuse me. Are you okay, sir? "

The man turned towards you, and you felt yourself blush from how handsome he was. His pupils were dark blue, almost black and his hair was black. His skin was fair. He turned to you with a sheepish smile. You could practically see the constellations in his eyes. 

   " I'm fine I just fell out of a tree. "

   " Out of a tree? "

   " Yeah, if you can't tell I'm one of the king's assassins. Hence why I am dressed in all black. "

   " What are you doing out here at this time? And in a tree? "

   " I was just wandering around. Taking a look at the stars and enjoying the breeze that blows by every so often. "

   " Well, do you want to walk back to the palace with me? "

   " I thought the gentleman was supposed to ask the lady that? "

   " It looks like the turn tables..."

   " ... "

   " Apple? "

You held out an apple to him. He laughed and took the apple from you. 

   " You're a strange one. And I like that! "

You smiled at him and you walked together to the palace. You both entered and the assassin walked you to your room before walking to his own.

   " What's your name by the way? I never asked you about it? "

   " Y/n. And yours? "

   " Jin Qiqiang. "

   " That's foreign. "

   " It's Chinese. It means enlightenment and strength. "

   " That's interesting. Why did you come here? "

   " Because-"

   " Jin! "

We turned to look at another man dressed in black. He waved Jin over and disappeared behind the corner.

   " That's my call. I'll see you another time Y/n. "

   " Goodnight Jin. "

You went into your room and locked your door. You set your stuff down and leaned on the window to your room.

   " I've never seen that look in your eyes. " Genevive commented.

   " What look? "

   " The look of interest. "
