CAUTION: SPOILER OF The Hunger Games

PART TWO ~ RUE

~<• time skip to 3 days later •>~

You sat at your usual spot, reading The Hunger Games peacefully. Rue just got stabbed. You loved Rue. A few tears gathered in your eyes as the scene went on. She was so young and innocent...

Just then, JJ walked up.

"Hey. Wait, what's up? Are you crying?"

You wiped your tears away and looked up at him.

"What happened?"

"N-nothing..." you muttered.

"Clearly it was something," he said.

"One of my favorite characters just died..." You said quietly.

"Oh... That's awful. I'm sorry. Wanna talk about it?" JJ said in response. He sat next to you, putting an arm around you. It startled you a little. You were a complicated thing to him. You were an interesting person that people struggled to understand.

"Uhm... No, not really..." You responded. "She was just... She was only 12 and she was so sweet and innocent..."

"Would it help to go out on the boat with me and the other Pogues?"

"All right," was your answer.

"Okay," he said, helping you up. You grabbed your bag that contained all of your belongings. Of course, JJ was unaware that was all you owned.

You opened the bag and put the book in. You then grabbed the bag and followed JJ to the HMS Pogue. (btw if y'all don't know what HMS stands for, i looked it up. it stands for His/Her Majesty's Ship. guess if u use they/them pronouns u could call ur boat the TMS lol. sry for the interruption lol)

Kie looked at you. She saw your reddened cheeks that were slightly wet from tears.  She already knew what happened. She had read The Hunger Games recently.

"Rue?" She asked. You nodded.

"Beer?" Again, you nodded. She handed you a beer. You sipped it as you sat down. You already felt better. JJ had that effect on people.

JJ sat next to you.

"So, other than Rufus, how's the book going?"

"Rue," you corrected him. "It's prolly the best book I've read. It's got such a good plot."

"Well, that's good," JJ said. This wasn't exactly his forte, but he tried because he really liked you. Even though he had known you for three days, you guys just kind of clicked. Of course, neither of you said anything about this.

"How many of those books are there?" JJ asked.

"Three," you replied before sipping your beer.

"And you're on...?"

"One," you replied. He nodded.

"So some girl named- what was it?- Kat-uh- Katpiss...?"

"Katniss," you corrected.

"Ah. So some girl named Katniss goes into this weird game where you kill each other, right?" He asked, trying to make conversation.

"Right," you said, nodding once.

"That sounds interesting."

"Yeah, it is. There's a lot more to the story," You replied.

"Oh?" He said, clearly wanting you to explain more about it. And so you did, because there wasn't really more you were interested in talking about. You hadn't really talked to people in a while, so it was strange, but nice in a way. Especially JJ.

~<• time skip to about 1 month later •>~

You were reading Mockingjay (last book in THG) and you were pretty close to finishing it. There was a slight breeze that felt nice. You sat in your usual spot, knowing JJ would be there soon.

And, just as you suspected, a few minutes later, JJ arrived.

"Yo," you said. A month ago, you wouldn't have said anything. You were getting used to talking a little more.

"Hey," he responded. "Still reading the same book?"

You held up the book to answer. He nodded.

"How's it coming along?"

"Good. I'm almost done," you responded.

"Good," he said. "Ready?"

"Yeah," you said, standing up. You grabbed your bag and stuffed the book inside.

"What's in there?" JJ asked. "You carry ur around everywhere. I've been so curious."

"Oh, um... Just some stuff..." You responded, not wanting him to know you were homeless.

"Like...?" He said, curiosity building up even more.

"Uh... My books, clothes, some food," you responded.

"Anything else?" JJ asked.

"No," you responded.

"I feel like you're hiding something," He said suspiciously.

"N-no, I'm not..." You replied.

"You're acting strange... er," he said, that last part quieter.

"Uh... Somebody else died in my book," you said.

"Oh. Sorry. Did you like them?"

"Yeah..."

"I'm sorry. That sucks, bro."

"Yeah. Let's go now," you said.

"Okay," JJ responded. You knew you'd have to tell him soon... Just not now...
