On Wednesday, the following week, Chris met up with Marley at his office and told him all that happened so far.
"I must say I'm impressed with the way everything has played out so far. No wonder I don't see you around anymore. You got yourself a new family now." Marley teased.
"I'm really sorry Marley. I know I've been preoccupied with this whole thing but God knows I really want Jacqueline to like me and even though I'm barely getting any rest these days, something in me just keeps on assuring me that it's totally worth it."
"And that thing is absolutely right. Don't worry about me, I'm totally in support of what you're doing." Marley smiled.
"Thanks Man! I really appreciate that." Chris said as he pat his friend on the arm.
"So does Nolan know about your plan for today?" Marley asked and Chris gave a lopsided smile.
"Oh, not yet... But he's about to find out soon!" Chris said as he got his phone out of his pocket and dialed Nolan's number.
"Hey Chris!"
"Hey Kid, how's it going?"
"Everything's great over here. How's everything with you as well?"
"Ugh, so much work to be done. Taking it one step at a time. How has it been with Loni? Everything going according to plan?"
"Yes I've been doing exactly as you instructed. I have one question though."
"What is it?"
"How on earth did you know how she'd respond? Are you psychic or something?"
"Haha! Definitely not a Psychic! Just an ordinary guy with a lot of experience." Chris laughed.
"Definitely can't wait to be like you."
"Eh, I say you can do way better. Anyway what are you up to today? You in school?"
"Yes, I'm in school. I have 1 more class to attend after which I'll head home."
"What time will you be done?"
"3pm!"
"Great! Do you mind if I come by and pick you up?"
"For real? That'll be awesome!"
"Good! I'd be around the area before 3pm. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to wait outside until your little friend Zach comes out. Immediately he's out, give me call."
"Wow! Okay!"
"Great! See you soon!" Chris hung up.
"Oh dear God, Please don't tell me you trying to jump a college student now." Marley raised an eyebrow.
"Nah! A little too classy for that. What we ain't too classy for though, is being petty!" Chris smiled and relaxed in his seat.
"Well I thought all you wanted to do was pick him up and give him a treat. Now you talking about being petty?" Marley wore a bewildered look on his face.
"Ah, don't worry about it my man." Chris threw his head back and laughed. "It's nothing I haven't done before. The difference now is that I'm about to be petty for a good cause."
"Huh? Whatever Man. Just let me know how it all goes down." Marley shook his head and laughed.
"Oh, I will." Chris chuckled.
***********
By 3pm, Chris was stationed a few metres from the College Nolan attends. 10 minutes later his phone started ringing.
"Hey, is Zach outside?"
"Yes... Not just Zach, Loni too. Zach is walking towards her."
"Don't worry Kid. As soon as I pull up, walk towards my car majestically."
"Haha, that's funny. Okay I will."
Within a few seconds, Chris pulled up in front of the college. His engine revving so loud, he could see people in the buildings peeking out their windows. He quickly glanced through the faces of everyone outside the school and he noticed that they were all in awe over how cool his car was.
He looked over to the left and saw Nolan striding like a model towards the car. Even though he was confident in his steps, Chris could tell he was agitated by the look in his eyes.
Chris immediately got out of the car. As Nolan approached the vehicle, Chris intercepted him on his path, tossed him the car keys and headed for the passenger seat. Nolan caught the keys and walked straight to the driver's seat without stopping.
"All eyes on you Bro." Chris said as soon as Nolan entered the car.
"Uhm Chris, I don't have a driver's license." Nolan struggled to get the words out as he held on to the steering wheel with both hands.
"Well I don't see any Cops around here. Now rev that engine up and show these kids how it's done!"
"Yes Sir!" Wearing a big smile, Nolan stepped on the accelerator and sped off.
***********
Soon after, Chris took over the wheels again and drove Nolan to a nice restaurant.
"Oh my God, Chris... I'm literally still shaking." Nolan cupped his face with his hands.
"It's overwhelming right?" Chris chuckled.
"So overwhelming. I can't believe you did that for me Chris. That was the coolest thing ever. My reputation just went from down here to like... Up here." He demonstrated with his hand.
"Here for you anytime! Were you able to catch the look on their faces?" Chris asked.
"I wish I did. My mind was all over the place. Could barely concentrate." Nolan took a sip of the soft drink Chris ordered for him.
"Well I foresaw that happening so I turned on my phone's camera in order to film some of the reactions from your peers."
"No way! You did that? You are so smart!" Nolan laughed.
"Haha! I don't know if I was able to get Zach and Loni's reaction in there but see for yourself." He handed Nolan his phone with the video on.
"Oh my God, there they are!" Nolan's eyes lit up.
"Where?" Chris asked as he bent over the table to see.
"Here! Zach is the one on the blue shirt and Loni is the one on the red jacket. Look at Zach haha, he had his mouth open the whole time." Nolan laughed out loud.
"Just the reaction I was hoping to see. Loni seemed impressed too." Chris smiled and sat back in his chair as the waiter served their food.
"Yes she did. She's so Pretty." Nolan paused the video and smiled as he stared at Loni.
Chris looked at him and chuckled. He couldn't help but remember what is was like, to be so young and in love.
