On Friday, Chris woke up earlier than usual. He got ready for work and decided to give Nolan a call on his way out.
"Hey Nolan, good morning."
"Good morning, Chris! Hope you had a good sleep."
"I did, thank you! Are you in school?"
"Yes, just came in." He replied.
"Great! Do you remember what you're supposed to do today?"
"I'm supposed to ask Loni out right?"
"No, you're supposed to study! What the hell?"
"Uhm..." He went silent.
"Haha, just playing with you Kid!"
"Got me there, haha! So is the plan still on?" Nolan asked.
"Of course! If she accepts, don't forget to ask her if she'll be okay with today or tomorrow." Chris added.
"Do you think there's a chance she'll turn me down?"
"I highly doubt that but who cares? The most important thing is that, you were confident enough to go after what you want. Whether she accepts or declines, is up to destiny to decide. You did your part."
"Thanks for everything Chris."
"You're welcome! Call me later and let me know how it went. Take care!" Chris hung up.

Chris spent most of his day in court and returned to the law firm by 3pm. He took care of some of the documents laying on his desk after which he decided to go to Marley's office and brief him on the civil proceedings brought against one of their clients. He was on his way when his phone started to ring.
"Hey Nolan!"
"Hi Chris! Is it a good time?"
"Yes it is. How did it go?"
"It went very well. She said she'll be free tonight by 7pm."
"Excellent! I bet you're excited." Chris smiled.
"More than! And I have you to thank for that."
"No worries. Send me your details so I can transfer some money to you."
"Oh wow! Thank you so much Chris."
"Don't mention it. Listen, I'll text you the name of the restaurant I want you to take her to. I want you to have a good time just as much as you want her to. The money I'll send to you will be enough to take care of the restaurant bills plus tips and your Uber."
"You're the best big brother ever Chris. Thank you!"
"Happy to be there for you."
"One more thing... What if she asks me about the other day and the whole car scenario. What do I say?"
"You tell her I'm a friend whose car is always at your disposal. Don't let her know you know you don't have a driver's license though." Chris chuckled.
"Oh I sure won't." Nolan laughed.
"Talk later, Kid!"

Later that evening, Nolan arrived at Loni's apartment and walked up to door. He drew in a deep breath before knocking twice.
"Who's there?" He heard someone ask from inside. He paused for a second because the voice sounded masculine.
"Uhm... It's Nolan." He replied and the door opened. To his surprise, he saw a man of about 6 ft 4 in height, emerge from the house.
"What do you want?" The man asked sternly.
"Uhm... My name is Nolan and I'm here to pick up Loni." He replied.
"Oh, so you here to pick up my girlfriend huh?" The man took a few steps forward which made Nolan to take a few steps back.
"Uhm... I must be in the wrong house. The person I'm looking for is single and she goes to my school."
"Oh, too late Bro! I'll teach you not to mess with ---"
"Matthew, can you stop?! You ain't scaring anyone you know!" Loni said as playfully spanked the man on his arm.
"Oh I sure got him! Look at his face." The man burst out laughing and Loni shook her head.
"Nolan, please excuse my cousin. He's from out of town and only here for a few days."
"Oh!" Nolan let out a deep breath and laughed. "That was a good one."
"Hey Man, the name's Matthew. No hard feelings right? Was only messing with you." He smiled and extended his right hand.
"Not at all!" Nolan chuckled and shook his hand. "I hope you don't mind me taking Loni for some hours."
"No, but please have her home before 10pm and make sure you take care of her. I want her back here safe and sound."
"I will!" Nolan replied.
"Bye Cuz! See you soon." Loni waved to him and followed Nolan to the car.
***********
Shortly after, they arrived at the fancy restaurant Chris directed them to. They settled in and placed their orders.
"Wow! This place is really cool Nolan." Loni smiled.
"I'm glad you like it." Nolan replied.
"But I feel a little uncomfortable." Her face saddened.
"Why?" He asked.
"I feel uncomfortable because this place is really expensive and I don't want you spending so much because you want to impress me."
"Well... Will you feel better if I told you I wasn't trying to impress you?" He asked.
"That would be a lie wouldn't it?" Loni smiled.
"Yeah, pretty much."
"By the way, I kinda figured out what's going on."
"What do you mean?" Nolan asked inquisitively.
"Well... I heard about what happened between you and that jerk, Zach. And then the following week, someone showed up in a really cool car and handed you the keys. Now that was a classy payback." Loni chuckled.
"Uhm... It's not really what you think." Nolan scratched his head.
"Oh, I'm sure it is." Loni giggled. "And you totally got him back good... Like really good!"
"I did?" Nolan asked pretending to be unaware.
"Yes!" Loni said excitingly. "The whole scbool was talking about it the next day. People were even laughing at Zach and calling him an idiot for breaking his friendship with you. I even overheard his friend telling him that if he were still friends with you, he could have gotten a chance to ride in such an expensive car."
"Oh wow! How do you think Zach feels about this?" Nolan asked seemingly interested.
Loni was about to respond when the waiter arrived with their food. Nolan knew better than to make her talk while eating so he secretly prayed that she wouldn't forget to answer his question when they were done.
