"As it is right now, Mr. Maverick doesn't stand a chance thanks to the new evidence tendered against him. The court will have no other option than to grant Mrs. Sally custody of the kids." Diane, a tall and vibrant family law attorney, also handling the case of the petitioner said, as she ran her hand through her long blonde hair.
"Honestly, I'm still wondering why she waited until now to give us that concrete evidence. We could have been done with this case a long time ago." Marley's eyes darted towards Chris then back to Diane.
"I guess she never expected him to try and fight for the custody of the kids knowing despite knowing fully well he was unfit to take care of them."
"How she managed to stay married to a man like that remains a mystery to me. She put, not just her own life at risk but also, that of her kids, just because she wanted to keep her marriage intact." Marley frowned.
"That was the craziest part! I honestly, couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the surveillance footage. That man almost shot her due to his mind-altering hallucinations caused by substance-induced psychosis. My goodness! The things people endure for the sake of love!" She placed a hand on her cheek.
"Can you even call that love? How can you love a person and not give them the help they need?" He asked.
"I guess there's no one way to define it. In Mrs Sally's case, I think she was scared of the consequences he would face if anyone found out about his drug problem. She was much more afraid of losing him to the law as opposed to losing him to something life-threatening." Diane shrugged.
"Can't really blame her anyway. Sometimes this thing we call love has a way of making people blind to oblivious things. I'm just glad she was able to make the right decision before it got too late."
"Me too! You know, it wouldn't be bad to have more people like Mrs Sally around. I think everyone deserves someone who would be ready to protect and love them at all cost." She smiled.
"You're right! People like Mrs Sally are very hard to come by these days." Marley concurred.
"True! So just incase you have someone like her in your life, you better cherish and hold on to them for as long as possible."
"Oh trust me when I say I'm holding on to my one true love with all the strength God gave to me." Marley wrapped his hands around his body and Diane laughed.
"That's good. How about you Chris? Got that special one?" Diane asked inquisitively but was met with silence. "Chris?" She called.
"Chris!" Marley yelled.
"Yeah?... I'm sorry did you say something?" He asked as he immediately snapped back to reality.
"Is everything okay with you? You've been quiet." She asked feeling concerned.
"Yes, yes, everything's fine. My mind wandered off a bit but I'm back now. What was it you were saying about Mrs Sally again?" He asked as he brought his hands together and focused his attention on Diane.
"You've got to be kidding me." She chuckled. "I beg to take my leave now. Marley will fill you in on whatever you missed. See you guys next week." She stood up and straightened her skirt after which she reached for her files and handbag.
"I'll see you off." Marley said as he walked with her to the door and opened it. He returned a couple of minutes later with a perturbed look on his face. "Hey man, is everything alright?"
"No! Everything's not. I'm losing my mind! I can't think, I can't work, I can't even have a conversation without my mind not drifting off to her at some point, ugh!" Chris said as he paced around his office.
